Default Welding trailer hitch

Should the batteries be disconnected when tacking the trailer hitch to the frame?

in theory no .. there should be no ground to frame on an electric cart
but
do it anyway
i would remove the batteries and store them well away from the cart to be welded on

I have welded many roof supports on carts with all batteries in place without disconnecting anything. Simply covered the battery bay with a piece of plywood and arced away. Not saying it's right, just giving real data.

If that happens to ye while sitting in the seat,it will cause your head to bump the roof and you may have to change undies!

about 8 years ago I had put in a set of battery's bought used at the Interstate dealer and 1 blew the top off.
I cover and unhook battery's or take them out, depending on what I am doing to the cart.
for example I had to patch a battery rack,I just took out 1 battery and covered the rest.did my repair,no problems.
