Default RVX / Voltage Reducer Questions

First time poster, although lurking for a good number of months now.

I got a 2012 RVX last year and got some goodies from the holidays to do some upgrading. My question here is about the voltage reducer installation and how I should go about it. I've seen a few threads on it, namely people saying NOT to connect it to the key switch either due to losing power when switching between F-N-R or shorting out the controller (not sure how this would happen). Others have connected it to the battery, turning on the reducer with a on-off switch.

I initially liked the idea of powering on the reducer using the key switch but not sure I want to deal with either bricking the controller or power loss from switching to F-N-R.

So I was going to go the route of a on-off switch but then started to think 'is that really needed if I plan to have a fuse box w/ switches to control my individual devices?'

Voltage reducer > fuse box > on-off switches for accessories

I don't see an issue with leaving the voltage reducer on at all times, as it isn't drawing any power with the on-off switch for the accessories. Am I missing something? I guess the only possibly issue would be the reducer, itself, getting hot. I guess that's why I'm posting, as I'm in the planning stages of the upgrade.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

I believe the reducer pulls power for the capacitors to stay charged..... so you should wire the reducer to turn off with the cart . The reducer should have its own fuse. Wire all accessories through a fused block . I used this one:

Gotcha. I was going to go with the 6 circuit version of the same brand.

Thanks.

Run the switch wire for the reducer to the large solenoid terminal (output from solenoid to controller). On a rxv, the solenoid is generally always on when the key is on.

Just to add to CG's post ...

The power wires (for the reducer)should be connected to the battery pack.
The enable or "to key switch" wire should be connected to the SWITCHED large terminal of sol.

Unlike most carts, RXV's power sol ON when key is turned to F or N or R.
This gives you the desired power on with key switch and saves you about $1,500 dollars in repair work.

Finally got this project done. Pretty easy peasy once you get past the scary posts of people blowing up controllers. My recommendation is make sure your volt meter has a good battery. I started with everything reading properly then when I made all the connections, the voltage meter read 1800 instead of the expected 12.

I also added a voltage reducer and fuse block from ScottyB to my 2012 RXV.
I connected the black to - battery pack and red to + battery pack and yellow to large connector on solenoid opposite the connector that goes to the + of the battery. I get power to fuse block and all accessories work but my new lights flicker badly when it is being driven, there is no flickering when not moving. The lights are led and it's almost like a strobe light when it's is being driven.

Any suggestions on why my cart is a strobe light?
