Need to add a towing hitch -I think...
Need to add a hitch to my cart. Been looking through the the threads here, but figured I would start my own.
Wanna pull our new smoker around the yard. Not sure of the tongue weight yet but it weighs around 2k all said and done. Thought I liked the RedHawkHitch14 but not sure now after looking at my cart when I got home. Only letting me post one pic from iPad |

Judging from the position of the axle on your smoker, sure looks like there's a bit of tongue weight there........

Agree with Nifrost. You may need to see about moving that axle forward a foot...

My opinion, attach the hitch to the frame, not your footrest. It'll hold that smoker!

Or ya might be able to get something like this and modify it just to be pulled by the golf cart. This would effectively relieve all the tongue weight off the cart by putting it to the ground. Probably cheaper and easier than trying to move that rear axle on the smoker.

Can you lift the tongue by hand? If so, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Need to add a towing hitch -I think...
Thanks to all...
Moving the axle is prolly not an option for me. The smoker may be a bit deceiving but that box on back is pretty dang heavy so I feel like its pretty balanced. I plan on measuring the tongue weight some how soon to see whats actually goin on. I like the trolly idea but since the majority of my movement would be to back the smoker under the cover, not sure about the logistics of that. Northern actually had one in an ad on sale yesterday that started my brain wonderin. Gorno - it is aluminum and that hadn't crossed my brain until you just pointed it out. The tongue can be lifted by hand but its heavy. once its up though the weight in the rear makes it easier to move. Although you can't lift it to high due to clearance of firebox on rear. Pretty low. Any recomendations on ones that mount to frame. The cart has everything upgraded from controller to cables to 48v. All the springs changed out to HD. Not sure exactly what controller settings would be prudent for towing a load, but I know I will change it from the current as much speed as possible. |
