pds speed chip instructions
Can someone tell me the proper sequence when installing a freedom chip in a pds cart?
Its been awhile since i installed one, but i don't remember the sequence of flipping the f/r switch etc? I just installed it in the controller, but the speed hasn't changed. This cart has the reverse buzzer disconnected, so i can't hear any beeps etc?/ Please tell me what position to put tow switch in, and what order to turn key on/off, and flip f/r?? |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
All you should have to do is install the speed 'chip' and cycle the R/T switch

Re: pds speed chip instructions
IIRC, some versions of the 36V PDS controllers won't change speed modes if the beeper is disconnected.
You want to flip the Run/Tow switch to Tow before doing anything electrical to a PDS cart, so it should have been in Tow when the speed chip was inserted and then it should have gone into whatever mode the chip was for when switched back into Run. |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
ok, since the buzzer is disconnected, and we have plugged the chip in and already tried flipping the f/r switch a few times, turned key switch on and off a few times and also have flipped tow switch a few times, can we start over and get this to work?
Also, let me add, we just installed new 6 volt trojan batteries. We installed the batteries first, made sure everything was correct. then tried the chip. This cart had the freedom chip in, when we changed the new batteries. The cart runs fine now, but has reverted back to 13 mph. Can you tell me the step sequence now, after we have did all the above? Awhile back i read you to flip the neutral to reverse 5 times etc. Please clarify. |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
Forget about the F/R switch, it is not a part of the process. Flip the Run/Tow switch to Tow, insert the personality chip of your choice (or no chip at all for default choice), and flip the switch back to Run.

Connect the beeper and it probably accept the new speed chip. |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
Ok i will try again. thanks for the input. I had no idea that a disconnected buzzer would come into play with this.
I hope the buzzer was just disconnected and not removed. |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
This cart had the chip up and running, before we installed the new batteries. We did turn the tow switch to tow, before removing and installing the batteries.
So once we test ran it, and saw it was down to 13 mph, we installed a new freedom chip, then test ran and still 13 mph. We did flip the tow switch also to tow, before installing new chip. Not sure what to do at this point??? |

Re: pds speed chip instructions
Looks like I missed the part about the cart previously having a freedom chip in it and was running in the freedom mode before changing batteries. That changes the symptoms from not going into freedom mode to only going 13 MPH after installing new batteries.
In other words, the cart may actually be in freedom mode and is running at a reduced speed for a reason that has nothing to do with what chip is installed. What is the battery pack voltage? What does it drop to when doing 13 MPH? What performance mode is it in? (Connect a beeper and put it into diagnostic mode to find out for sure) Basically, you have to identify what the cart is actually doing or not doing and troubleshoot from that point. |
