Default toggle switch tie in to voltage reducer

Hello

Bear with me because the electronic side of golf carts is not my strong point just yet. I am having trouble figuring out which wires I need to run to my on and off switch from the voltage reducer. My voltage reducer is as follows: black is output negative, yellow is output positive, red w/white goes to key switch. The two inputs are black is input negative and red is input positive. I have already tied into the output positive yellow wire to go to one side of my on and off switch, but im not sure what goes on the other side....fyi this is a 36 volt system marathon golf car.

any help would be great please and thanks

steve

What "on/off switch"? If you're just talking about an inline/toggle switch for your 12v power, the output (+) goes in and comes out of the switch. Add more yellow wire, it's still the positive lead from the reducer, it's just switched now.

Do you have a fuse panel?

Yes sorry I mean on and off switch to turn the lights on and off. So if I understand right, tie into the yellow output positive wire to go to one side of the switch, and run some wire for the other side of the switch and tie it back into the yellow output positive? or run that to the main battery positive? No I don't have a fuse panel on it, just in line fuses.

Again, please bear with me, I know its a simple process, I just dont want to blow up this voltage reducer.

thanks

You will tie yellow wire out positive to one side of the switch then run a wire from there to your headlight

I think i got it now....one side of the switch is tied in from yellow output positive, then run wire from the other side of switch to the positive wires on my headlights. So basically I am just cutting the 12v power to my head lights with the switch.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice, I am just afraid to fry the voltage reducer. By the way, I had previously installed an on and off toggle switch before and I tied into the main input positive....well lets just say when I flicked the switch the headlights got bright and burnt out. The main input positive wire did have an in line fuse and i noticed it did not pop. Is that a good sign I didn't fry the voltage reducer or could I still have possibly ruined it??

Yes. You are just breaking the hot leg.
most put in fuse block to tge output of the VR and then run hot legs to switches then switch to accessory.
be careful if the VR is 30a output to a 10a light.
