Unhappy Left headlight switch on Electric EZGO

2008 Electric EZGO - We left the headlight switch on overnight and now the lights do not work. The lights were not actually on all night, as they turn off when you turn the cart power to off, but simply leaving on the light switch clearly is all it took. Neither headlights nor tail lights work. Any thoughts? I don't really know what I am look for, as I don't see a fuse. Perhaps just the bulbs? Thanks

Lights are typically operated through the keyswitch only or through a toggle switch only, so having two switches turning the lights on/off is unusual.

How are the lights powered?

Most likely one of the following:
Main battery pack tapped for 12V.
Separate 12V accessory battery.
DC to DC converter (Voltage reducer) for 12V.
36V bulbs in lights.

If a DC to DC converter is being used, the toggle switch might be for turning it on and off, so leaving it on for an extended period of time might have caused it to fail, especially if the batteries were on charge during that period.

Need more information to troubleshoot.

Thanks. It's just one switch (sorry if I confused you). I assume the lights are powered by the main battery under the seat.

Since the switch was left on, but the lights went off when the power of the cart was shut off, my first assumption is that it's the fuse.

HOWEVER, I cannot find a fuse, anywhere. I have looked on the dash, under the seat, behind the lights, etc. I did some research online and through online manual at ezgo.com and it sounds like there supposed to be a fuse (atc 10a...?) most likely under the seat.

If you know where I am supposed to be looking, please let me know. ...Or, if I am way off, I am happy to be working on something else.

Thanks

Are you saying that the voltage reducer shouldn't be powered all the time? I have mine connected to the battery pack and I have a kill switch installed on the other side of the voltage reducer going to my terminal block.

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely NOT saying anything about whether the voltage reducer should or should not be left on all the time. This is not my area of expertise--not even sure I know what that is. I have not altered the cart in anyway. It's in normal, factory condition.

Clearly leaving on the headlight switch was not a good idea. I just can't find the fuse to replace it.

Thanks

Welcome to BGW!

2008 cart with "factory" lights would have a terminal fuse block on the plastic wheel well driver's side. Lift the seat, fuses should be right there.

No, when I said if it was left on for an extended period of time, it might have failed, and that running it while the battery charger is charging the battery pack increases the probability of failure, I was referring to this specific problem where the lights no longer work after a switch was left on.

In general terms, if the voltage reducer's input voltage range is high enough to tolerate the battery pack's on-charge voltage (about 45V for a 36V pack and about 60V for a 48V pack), leaving it on all the time probably won't kill it. On the other hand, it will draw amps from the battery pack even when the 12V accessories are not turned on, so people using voltage reducers without a remote On/Off wire, may want to add a heavy duty switch or a relay to remove battery pack power from it when the cart isn't being used.

If you have a radio or audio system the need a keep alive voltage for the presets, there are voltage reduces out there than have a low power 12V output that is on constantly while the high power 12V is switched on and off.
There are also other ways of solving the Keep-Alive voltage issue.

How about some picture showing the complete battery pack and the spaces in from of the wheel wells on both sides.

Maybe we can see how the lights get their power and figure out what the extra switch is for.

Attached is an diagram for factory lighting.
