Default 2002 txt rear axle problems

Had a friend stop by the house today to have me look at his cart. 2002 TXT the driver side rear tire was making a grinding noise. What I found was the brake drum was canted off on an angle. He has 2" billet spacers so my thought was he had a loose bolt on the spacer possibly. Removed tire to check it out. The billet nuts were all tight so I tried to remove the drum to get a better look. When I pulled the drum the whole drive shaft came out with it. Bearing and seal were almost completely gone and I found a bent piece of metal which I can only assume was the C clip. He told me he had a shop repair this 3 times in the last year. My question is what would cause this to keep going bad and how do I fix it. I have worked on a lot of carts but never an EZGO and I have not replaced any rearend parts. Does anyone know of a video or step by step post that I could refer to so I can get this fixed for him. Thanks all

Yeah, get rid of the spacers. They act as a "longer lever" to put loads on the bearings.

That is what i was thinking CG spacers acting like a fulcrum. Definately going to get rid of them. Do you or any of the others on here have the OEM part number for the bearing replacement kit I started looking last night but I am not sure exactly what number parts I need to order. Thanks all for your help.

My 2002 left rear wheel is grinding too. The bearing was fine but I replaced it anyway. It's still doing it.

Below is a link to the OEM Axle Bearing Kit, but it appears to be on backorder at EZGO.

Google the part number and you'll get several alternate sources.

If the seal is okay the bearing is a 6004-RS.. Most auto parts places have it.

I just did a complete bearing and seal replacement on the wife's txt and all the bearing came from the local parts place, the only thing I had to get from ezgo was the welch/freeze plugs for the intermediate gear shaft

If your going to get rid of the spacers then send them to me, we have a couple carts in the neighborhood that have been running 2" spacers to get the back wheels to line up with the tracking of there Jakes Long Travel lift kits for years without a problem
