using floorjack on gear housing pan
I have been using a floorjack, for years , to jack up the rear end of golf carts.
Alot of times, i put the jack under the differntial gear housing pan and lift. Is this ok? Am i risking damage? Have i just been lucky so far? Sometimes, one side of the rear axle is long enough that i can get the jack under the axle tube, but the other side is much shorter, so i go under the pan. Comments? |

Re: using floorjack on gear housing pan
I place the jack just to the left of the housing, it balances fairly close that way then slip the jackstands on the outer parts of the axle tube

I do it and have never seen it damage a pan. Maybe I'm lucky too.

Re: using floorjack on gear housing pan
I use a piece of wood, between the jack and housing, to spread out the PSIs that you'd have with point to point metal contact.

Re: using floorjack on gear housing pan
I have not only done this on my cart, I have done it on nearly every car/truck I have ever owned over the last 35 years, never had an issue.

Re: using floorjack on gear housing pan
On a car or truck, is not an issue because your jacking on the cast iron. I guess the cart pan is OK based on everybody's experience. I don't do it.

Re: using floorjack on gear housing pan
I installed an Eye-Bolt in the hole that exists through the frame's rear cross-member and use a chain-fall to lift rear of my cart.
However, when I do use a floor-jack, I use the designated lifting points. |
