Default 97 EZGo series controller, cart won't run

97 ezgo. Has plum quick after market motor, Jakes 4" lift. Large tires. Hilly terrain. Controller was stock ezgo. Girls used it. Pulled back to garage. Wouldn't run again. Solenoid was clicking. Tried to jump solenoid. But went from neg post to solenoid instead of positive. Have a new standard solenoid. Doesn't click. I have 37.4 volts at batteries. Have same from neg post to closest post to batteries on solenoid. Have no volts when I test a M/B+ leads at controller. Local cart dealer said controller fried. Recommended stock controller as there is no way to gain performance from series controller. Also said not to use diodes on solenoid. Although the Alltrax article Scotty posted on another thread says different. Bottom line. Given my cart setup and terrain. What are my options. Stock controller struggled to get to the top of the hills in my neighborhood. Scary fast, given the lift on cart, going down the hills. My 4 girls often ride together.

Your dealer is wrong. Series carts can gain torque for hills by allowing the motor access to more amperage with a larger controller. Use SPM48500. Package #485 includes the SPM500 control for Ezgo and the 400 super solenoid with resistor and diode. You will also need to upgrade the F&R (EZ575) and the cables should be 2g throughout the cart. High torque aftermarket motors are also available for use with the SPM48500 control but not with the stock control.

Series drive systems do not offer any motor braking to check downhill speed. Ausco offers cable disc brake sets with HD hubs. These are a bolt on upgrade for the brakes.

you made a wise choice! scott b is the best. brakes and good judgement are the only downhill speed control for a series cart....

Scotty....Trying to do this with 2 collapsed disks in my neck is a pain. Plus a down pour soaked my instructions (still readable) but the wires going to the F/R switch had the labels washed off..so not sure where they go. How do I tell. The cables for the controller are marked on the insulation

Check for power to the key switch. if no look at the F&R micro switch on the drivers side. NO (+) power anywhere? Check the reed switch
