98 EZGO TXT accelearting by itself
I have a 1998 electric EZGO TXT.
It is accelerating on its own. It accelerates as soon as you put it in forward/reverse and turn the key on. You do not have to touch the gas pedal at all. The only way to stop it, is to turn the key off or put it in neutral. It is accelerating at full speed, and is very dangerous. I have recently replaced the solenoid, resistor and diode. I also bypassed the reed switch, as the reed switch was faulty. I think the new solenoid is engaging when you turn the key on and it is in gear. Any ideas how to fix this problem? |

Double check your wiring.
This is the diagram for my controller but it should be pretty similar to what ever you have. http://www.alltraxinc.com/files/DOC1...T-WIRE-DIA.pdf |

I would check the forward / reverse switch.

In either case, the solenoid should not energize until the pedal is pushed and even if the pedal switch was bad, the controller shouldn't pass max amps to the motor unless the pedal was on the floor, so there are at least two problems. Have to know which drive type to troubleshoot. |

Re: 98 EZGO TXT accelearting by itself
It's a series drive.
Last night when you put it in gear with key on, it takes off at full throttle and other times it takes off slower. This problem just started. The solenoid is clicking and engaging with out touching the gas pedal. About 2 months ago my solenoid gave up the ghost and I replace the solenoid, resistor and diode and I bypassed the reed switch, as the reed switch was faulty. I'm confident the wiring on the solenoid, resistor and diode are correct. The problem sounds like a short somewhere to me, but I'm just guessing. |

Forgot to mention that it accelerates in forward or reverse with key on, and not touching the gas pedal.

Re: 98 EZGO TXT accelearting by itself
With a series drive, the voltage that makes the solenoid contacts close has to pass through 3 or 4 switches. You've bypassed the reed switch, so there is only 3 for your cart.
You have to have a direction selected and the key on for the solenoid to click, so those two switches appear to be working normally. That leaves the pedal switch. Either bad, maladjusted or shorted around someway. The takes off wide open when solenoid clicks is likely to be a separate problem. The fact that it takes off rapidly sometimes and less rapidly other times, points to a throttle issue. If you have washed the cart or it has otherwise gotten wet somehow, there may be water (or moisture) in the pedal box under the floor mat, or the inline connector between the pedal box and controller. |

Re: 98 EZGO TXT accelearting by itself
I checked the pedal box today during lunch break.
It is half full of water. I dried it out and blew it out with a compressor. It's sitting and air drying. I'll test it tonight when I get home from work. Hopefully it will work, but worst case scenario is I have to replace the pedal box micro switch. I'll check back after I put it back together tonight and test it. I have to admit, this is the best freaking site on the net for golf carts. So many knowledgeable people. So grateful for the help! |

We're you driving in deep water recently? Just curious how the water got in there.
