Default Ezgo Passkey 48v

Does anybody have any thoughts/suggestions on getting around using this key to unlock freedom? Has anyone reverse engineered one of these things? There can't be that much to them. I understand it is a physical device that the dealer has to pay for, but I would have thought that considering I just spent $1350 on a new controller with them, they would have cut me a break on the unlock.....not the case at all. I was thinking about renting the 1313 programmer and trying to do all of the tuning myself. Thanks in advance!!

The handheld tool will let you change some settings but you will still be limited to 14~15mph. You may notice a setting called "Freedom Enable" that you cannot change. Plugging the key in likely changes that from 0 to 1. However there is no handset available with a high enough access level to change that, so you will need that key.

There are some ways around that of course. If you have a 4 pole magnet in the speed sensor it will trick the control into thinking your only going half your actual speed. So if the motor is capable it will potentially do up to 28~30mph This is what most "high speed" motors do in addition to re-configured field windings.

Yea, I figured. I was just hoping someone had found a bypass... I'd like to get one of these, even a spent one and tear it down to examine the innards.

A member on here just bought the tool or key or whatever and was charging $70. He sent it to you. You unlock your freedom mode and send it back.

If anyone happens to have an already used single-use key I would love to get my hands on one to attempt to reverse engineer it.

Sounds like it would have a big dead spot.. the 4pole magnets I have seen were still full circle.

Sepex motors have a magnet that spins that the speed sensor watches to keep the motor regulated. I guess depending on how often the sensor "reads" the magnet is what would matter. At 3K RPM it is spinning 50 rev pers second..
