western 42 volt upgrade to 48volt
Forgive me , I don't know how to contact Scotty directly. I have purchased a 1998 Western Elegante. They went out of business in 2006. It has 7- 6volt batteries and runs perfect....looks nearly perfect. I have had many golf carts, and was told by a qualified club car tech, that you can put a 36 volt motor in a 48 volt cart and it greatly increases speed ( on club car ). My question to Scotty and any other experienced tech is: Do you think I could put 6- 8 volt batteries in the elegante ( currently a 42 volt ) thereby making it a 48 volt cart. Would you think the controller and motor would handle the extra voltage? If so this might increase my top end speed. It is nearly street legal and only needs a brake light kit, and seat belts. Many thanks to this wonderful site J.J. |

Re: western 42 volt upgrade to 48volt
Yeah you got a shot at it.... you better be sure the controller and solenoid are 48v compatible...that means google model #s till you get the answer. These carts had upgraded motors too, should handle it okay - let us know what you find

Re: western 42 volt upgrade to 48volt
if your western has the Delta-q "yellow & black" charger (some newer ones did), you are really in luck. it can be reprogrammed to do 48v, wont even need to buy a new charger .

Re: western 42 volt upgrade to 48volt
Been a busy season selling carts, and have not had time to work on the western....surgery for my right shoulder replacement coming up in Sept....looks like it'll be near christmas before I can try the conversion. Will check with flyte systems rep concerning the controller.
Thanks everyone ! |
