Default 1996 36v B+ cable heating up

First post here and just like everyone I bought a used cart and chasing some ghosts.
Replaced cart with all new 6v Duracell cart batteries. Cart only does 10mph and kind of slows down over time. Cables have all been cleaned and tight but the B+ cable from the seloniod to the control box heats up.
Other thing is the seloniod diodes are missing. Does that realy matter?

Any and all help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Lucky

If the cable gets hot, there is a poor connection. Replace it or clean up the connection.
