Default Ezgo series suggestions

Hey guys. I just recently purchased a 2005 ezgo txt. It's my first golf cart and im excited about it. My wife and I love riding it around town on short errands. The only issue I have with it is it falling flat on its face whenever I get to any inclined slope. I was told my cart is a series due to the forward/reverse switch being a lever below the seat, and that I bought the wrong kind of golf cart. I'm sure there has to be something I can do to it to get a little more power out of it. I've read about adding extra batteries to it, but I'm not sure if the controller and motor are comparable with anything other than 36v. I was also told about a magnet I could change out possibly? I'm just looking for some ideas. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Ideal first cart. You can learn a lot about golf carts owning a series cart. First you need to look at the batteries. Check for corrosion, maintain battery levels with distilled water. I owned a series cart similar to the one you describe and it was a real workhorse. Rust eventually got the frame and the batteries finally failed. If I could find a good used frame I would consider fixing it up to run again. As far as a stock cart goes doing work it would run circles around a stock PDS. It never went into thermal shutdown while poking around spraying fire ants or pulling large tree limbs or disabled vehicles.

I don't know why that is the wrong kind of cart. Most people would say a resistor or a DCX is the wrong kind of cart. (And even that is just an opinion)

More batteries will help and your motor will most likely tolerate them. Not so on the controller and solenoid. Of course you need a new charger also.

But before I would look in to that, I would check into your batteries. Might be that is all you need.

Could always look into upgrading the controller, may not get much more top end speed but could gain some torque for pulling up the hills easier and not slowing down as much. Check out scottyb's page http://www.cartsunlimited.net he is awesome and will tell ya exactly what you need to get what you want out of your new cart

Welcome to BGW . Whether or not you bought the 'wrong cart' depends upon how you want to outfit and use the cart.

Below from my website > under upgrade help

We are going to look at series drive carts first. Initially all golf carts were series drive.
Sepex drive carts came later. The series drive carts are known as the workhorses of the golf cart world. Series carts produce more torque and less speed than their Sepex drive cousins. They are the first choice for off-road use and towing.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I'm going to look into upgrading the controller and battery voltage here soon. I'm sure I will have to replace the cables and solenoid when I do. I'm seeing mixed things on having to replace the F&R switch. Is that necessary to do as well?

If you upgrade your controller, solenoid, cables you will more than likely need to upgrade to a heavy duty F/R switch. The extra voltage will probably burn it up pretty auick.

Either way though if he adds in a bigger controller the amps will burn out a stock series controller eventually but good catch I did mean amps at first blame it on the coors light

Yes, The increased amp flow will tax the stock F&R to the failure point sooner or later. If your F&R is new it may last a while. But if it is original it already has some wear and it would be best to replace it with an upgraded version before you get stuck out in the woods or way down the road
