Angry My cart creeps along at quarter speed.

I have a 2008 TXT PDS 36V EZ-GO. The problem started out while at max speed the power (and speed) would drop instantly for a second or 2. It has steady got worse and now it stays at bout quarter speed and once in awhile will lurch forward at full power for a second or 2, all the while the pedal is to the floor. I have 1 year old Trojan batteries and brand new cables. I have not found any bad connections or wires. Any suggestions?

Couple of things can cause this. Welded solenoid can trigger controller safe mode. My experience is some other controller failures can also trigger safe mode even though they are not listed as doing so in the manual.
Speed magnet failure can trigger snail mode.

Thanks for the input. But if the solenoid was welded would it not stay in limp mode? What and where is the speed magnet?

If one of these two conditions occurred weather it is a legitimate fault or a false one it will typically run a few feet normally before going into limp mode once the vehicle is first powered.

I would check the precharge resistor to make sure it inst shorted, they are usually around 250ohms. The speed sensor should be on the end of the motor with a 3 position connector which plugs into a 3 pin socket on the MX control. You can usually check to make sure this is working by pushing the cart by hand with the tow/run on. The buzzer will go off a few times indicating its operating anti-rollback.

I am not certain off hand about the MX but the Curtis 1268 with a welded contractor will run normal speed after first powering up and accelerating once. The limp mode does not kick in until the controller first commands the contractor to open and sees that the voltage on the cap back doesn't drop. But cycling the tow run will reset this cycle.
