Battery Question
As some of you know I replaced my batteries back in late October with Trojan 105+'s, got a question for the experts.
I was out riding today and it is a lot cooler (42-45 degrees) than any day I've had my cart. I was surprised at the drop on my state of charge meter and the cart also seemed to labor going up hills much worse than before, nothing major but you could feel it slowing down. The SOC meter dropped down 3 or 4 bars after 7 to 8 miles of riding. I checked the batteries before putting it up for the night with my volt meter and they all were in the 6.18-6.19 range, which is consistent with the chart on the Trojan site for 70%. My cart is a PDS, I got no beeps while riding. Also, I normally ride the cart a little everyday but I've been out of town the last three, could the batteries have been not fully charged but not low enough to kick the charger back on when I took it off ? Does the cooler weather affect batteries this much ? |

Re: Battery Question
Completely normal. As the weather gets cooler the capacity follows the temps. The silver lining is as long as it is above freezing, it preserves the battery plates, just besure to keep them fully charged.
Don't confuse SOC with battery capacity, they are not directly related. Also voltage is not a very good indicator of SOC, too many variables like resting, charging, discharging, and battery temperture. Only accurate method of measuring the SOC is taking the specific gravity and compensting for temperture. |

Re: Battery Question
Good News !
I guess I was being a little paranoid about it after spending $4000 plus on my cart since September. |

Re: Battery Question
You guys have got it good! With the windchill factor, it is -52c. Too cold for the snowmobile, nevermind the cart.

I had to go to Chicago for a meeting last February and with me being "up north" for the first time in my 42 years I wanted to experience the elements. It was 0 when I walked out the door of the motel. When the wind hit me, I spun around, said F that and went back inside where I stayed until the airport shuttle picked me up 2 days later ! |
