Good day all! I have a 96 EZ-GO DCS with a powerwise charger. My ? is, if i leave it plugged in all winter, will the charger turn on when the voltage drops to a certain state? Or once it's charged, do u unplug and plug back in , in a month or so? thnx.

That charger will not recycle itself. You must unplug it from the cart and plug it back into the cart for it to reset. Once a month should be good enough if batteries are clean and in good shape.

Thnx for the reply. The batteries are clean and up to snuff, and the cart is indoors for the winter months.

Lucky you. Mine sits outdoors under a roof and a cover for the Wisconsin winter. I need to drive there once a month just to cycle the charger. Of course, I cycle all my friend's chargers also, and get to spend the night in the trailer with the wifey. Good cuddling weather!

For me when I converted my EZGo from 36 to 48, I did not buy a 48 volt charger made for carts. I saved some money and got a much better 3-stage charger, and put the right plug on it for the cart.

It stays on all the time. When yu forst connect it the unit goes into Bulk Contant 20 amp current charger until th ebattery reaches 80%, switches to Absortion taper charger til thee battery reaches 100%, then switches to float indefinetly until unplugged keeping the battery fully charged and topped off.

OK there are lots of options when budget comes to mind, but what I did is use a Japlar Schauer 48 volt 15-amp 3-stage charger programmed for Trojan battery.

If you google "3 Stage 48 Volt Battery Chargers "you will get a lot of hits in a wide range of prices. Ebay is even an option.

Basically you need to look for a charger that at least has some battery options like FLA, SLA, VRLA, AGM, Gel. The important one is FLA or flooded lead acid. Also pay attention to charge current, you want something in the 15 to 25 amp range.

I have seen that unit before and it has been used by other sparky cart owners with good results. You made a good choice in my opinion.

Thanks there are other less expensive ones out there that can do the job. The one I use is lot less expensive than some of the other ones like Lester, and it does a much better job.

3 stage charging is the best and will prolong battery life, not to mention keep the batteries up and fully charged. It is especially important for long term storage and even more important to keep batteries floated in cold freezing weather.
