Default RXV still rattles/clunks

Had a clunking noise under the front end of my RXV so I did a search here and ended up replacing the A Arm bushing and carrier tubes which helped some. I then checked the kingpin tubes and thrust washers and ended up replacing them as well which eliminated the play there and really tightened up the steering (but not in a bad way).

While both of these helped somewhat I am still getting some rattle and clunk under the front end. Any suggestions on where to look next? I am thinking I may need to replace the entire a arm assembly as it appears you can't replace the inner bushing but before I dropped $100 on new a arms I was hoping for a second opinion.

Thanks

hard to describe, but the a-arm tube & kingpin bushing tube may still be too long. but there are 2 other places in there that can make noise. 15mm nut right next to inner a arm bushings, it points up. 2 "torx bolts at the junction where "foot rest area" meets floorboard area. you cant get a socket in there, vice grips will be needed. looking from front, there is a "y" shaped bracket.

Thanks, cgtech!

I tried the other suggestions and still have the clunking sound when I hit a good size pavement crack. I can't get any sound bouncing the front end up and down or when I have the front end jacked up. A-arms seem to be in good shape so hopefully the trouble spots you identified are the problem. I'll give it another look tomorrow and see what I can find.

Thanks, cgtech!

The 15mm vertical bolts were both just a half-turn loose and that cured it.

By the way my ASU is Arkansas State but I am an Arizona fan going back to the old Lute Olson days !

Give em hell Wildcats!

There is a part called "insert with flange" for the top of the spindle and a part called "insert without flange" for the bottom of the spindle. The flange wears away, it is brass, and slack develops above and below the spindle. I didn't buy the new flange and went to the hardware store and bought a 10" by 4" brass sheet that was 0.016" thick. I made my own ugly shim to take up the slack. Wow! The noise is gone. Use your feeler gauge to see how much shimming you need. I haven't tried to buy the new inserts as I cannot seem to find them. Good luck. Part numbers: 632925 and 632926

Default Re: RXV still rattles/clunks... SOLVED (so simple)

FOUND IT: I tightend the (2) 15mm nuts (bolts pointing up) that hold the suspension frame to the upper frame. THEY WEREN'T LOOSE, BUT HAD ROOM TO TIGHTEN.

SOLVED!!!! HOORAY.

This after I replaced shocks, steering rack, kingpins and bushings, A-arm bushings, left and right spindles.

Have been fighting this for 3 months. !!!
