hookin up the lights

Hello again,
I want to install some running lights on my 97 Resistor cart 36v
BUT.. I’v seen through the post here it’s not as easy as 123
Looking at 12 volt light kit.. any advice?
(Again you guys are the best)

when i did mine, i went off of two batts in the system(side by side) may want to take a voltmeter and make sure you are just getting 12 volts, pos one neg other, you get your twelve volts and have had no issues, you can do as some others have said and switch which two you use periodically to even the drain on all six batts.. mine are some fog lights with a toggle switch, work great hope this helps..

There is a chance you will consistently drain down the 'two' more than the others.... over time this will leave them in a weaker state which will cause an imbalance in the battery pack. The imbalance will cause the charger to cook the good batteries while waiting for the weaker ones to come up.....Now this is worst case scenario. Your results will vary depending on the actual amperage drawn and how often, and how long you use them.... Or you can buy a voltage converter and draw evenly off of the whole pack like your motor does....Hope this helps

I've asked 4 or 5 cart shops and read on three different cart forums that you will be fine running your lights off of 2 of the batteries in your pack. Just be sure to move the wires to another couple of batteries every couple of months when doing your monthly battery maintenance, therefore rotating the extra pull thru the pack.

Now with that said, if you are going to use your lights a lot I would buy a 36 to 12 voltage reducer and let it pull against the whole pack. Of the shops I mentioned above, not one of them install a volt reducer on the carts they sell.

They don't install the voltage reducers because a good one costs a hundred dollars! Most people will not do maintenance often enough let alone.....rewire the light cinnections when doing it.... why risk it? Do it right!

With the cost of new batteries ..... why not spend $100 to insure your lights are drawing off of the whole pack instead of just 1/3 of it, potentially causing an imbalance and leading to early failure? ANd then do your maintenance regularly?

Given the amount of money that some of us have tied up in these carts, grousing over 100/150 bucks to extend the service life of an expensive set of batteries doesn't make sense..

you could also wire one headlight to 2 batteries using 4 of them. then wire your taillights to the other 2 batteries. this would pull from all 6 batteries
