EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
I have a 36V EZGO TXT golf cart I recently purchased used. It does not have a serial number plate, but from the research i have done, I can tell it is post 1994 and pre 2000. It has a security beacon on it so I assume it was used as a security guard cart. It runs fine on flat surfaces and downhill, but when i go uphill it slows down to a crawl. I have brand new batteries and have tested everything in it. I get 37v - 38v everywhere but on the motor posts. Is there some setting that may have been switched to make this cart have less torque going uphill?
Thanks |

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
Welcome to BGW. 1994-2000 TXT came in 3 drive systems. Can you ID your drive system from the chart below?

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
How slow is slow and how steep of a hill. They will want that info as well as what the pack voltage drops too when it's under this load "crawling"

On Steep hills (golf course hill), it's walking speed. On mild hills it's barely above that. I have no idea what voltage it's at when going up a hill. I don't know how to measure that while I'm moving.

Get some aligator clip test leads. Clip one to main positive and one to negative . Then clip each end to the probe on your Digital volt meter and lay it on the seat next to you while you drive.

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
I appreciate your help, but I was just wondering if anybody knew if there was some sort of setting that can be adjusted for this type of cart. Something other than replacing the motor or the speed controller. I just wanted to know if the security company had done something to it to keep it form going faster or if this golf cart is just slow and I have to deal with it.

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
Series drive = not the fastest carts around. They produce more torque than speed. Slowing uphill is normal for an electric cart. Unfortunately there are no silver bullets for performance.
Battery supply is everything - check the voltage while the cart is lagging uphill. |

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
Have a similar issue with a 36v club car. Holds a 36v charge but draws down to 20v uphill (crawling). Anything I can besides replacing batteries?

Re: EZGO 36V electric cart slow uphill
Oh yes, lots of amperage delivery components can be upgraded top allow the motor to access more amperage BUT first things first - you gotta have good batteries. And if it's battery time you may want to think about upgrading to 48v depending upon your performance goals for the cart
