Default Help me pick a new controller

My 2004 ezgo 36V series cart stopped working and after all the testing it looks like the controller went south on me. It is basically a stock cart with a 6 inch lift and 12 inch wheels batteries are 2 seasons old and hold a full charge and I put big wires on all batteries to the F/R and to controller at that time but not down to the motor. This cart is in a campground and does go through some trails with little hills and pulls a small trailer to get rid of yard waste. I like the Idea of the SR48500 but if I purchase this do I have to upgrade the F/R switch and other wires right now or can I wait till money becomes more available. Would love to hear any other options or opinions as I really don't know what to do.

The SR48500 is a good choice although it sounds like you could do with the SR48400 (460 amps peak) unless you are understating the loads and terrain the cart is used in. The 400a control is good with the stock motor and the 500a control is good for stock and aftermarket motors.
The 400a control uses 4 g through out the system and the 500a control needs 2g throughout (this includes all 13 cables including the motor for both size cable upgrades).
Both controllers should have the EZ575 HD F&R upgrade as the increased flow will lead to stock F&R failure.
And finish up your current cable upgrade.
The most economical upgrade would be the
SPM48400/MZJ200solenoid- still only $419
Next the SR48400/SW180 combo ($471)
The SR48500/MZJ400 combo is ($536)
The SR control will run on 36 or 48 volts without any program changes. MOst solenoids are voltage specific with the MZJ400 being an exception. The MZJ400 can be run on 36v and 48v later. Note the SPM48400 can be paired with the MZJ400 also to make another 36v now and 48v later package.
I hope this helps

What size tires on those 12" wheels? That may make a difference, if your running 18" tires or 25" tires on those 12" rims.

I don't know the actual size of the tires and the cart is up north on our seasonal site. the wheels are 12 inch storm troopers and came with sahara classic tires if that helps any.

Those Sahara tires can be 20,22,or 23 I think.

Wheels are irrelevent. You can put a low profile low rider tire on that rim or a 25" ATV tire.

Funny but everybody knows what size rims they have - not the tire height. Tire height effects gear ratio - that's why we ask. I have 10" rims with 18" tires and 10" rims with 25" tires. Nearly a 30% height difference there.

I think 22 was the most common height for that tire.

I tried to look up those tires and all I see are 22x11-12 and mine don't have a tall side wall. So with that will the SR48400 / MZJ200 + 4G wires and EZ575 F/R switch still be a good choice?? I worry about the motor going at some point and what choices will be available with that combination. Thank you guys for helping me.

Here's the deal: The stock motor in this cart is 2.5 hp and the 400a control is okay for the stock motor or a stock replacement type motor.
Aftermarket performance type motors are 8 -12 hp and the 500a controller is required so - if you think an aftermarket motor is in your future because your motor is old or because you know you may want more power...... then get the 500a control now.

This "upsell" is honest advice and only makes sense. The difference in the price of the two is almost nothing when looking at how much they cost anyway. He is just looking out for you here cause if you were to have a motor burn up and upgrade in a year you will have to buy the 500 anyway and sell your used one and the hit you take selling it used will be way more than the difference of the two units. And honestly he probably makes the same profit regardless if you buy the 400 or 500amp.
