Default Solenoid questions. PDS drive

1. Is the solenoid normally open or normally closed?
2. With key off I have battery voltage at the battery side terminal, and .5 volts less on controller side terminal, no voltage on either small terminal is this normal?

3. With key on and in forward, I have voltage on both the yellow and blue wire terminals, but no solenoid click. Voltage on large terminals remains the same.

4. Key on and in reverse, no voltage on either small terminal. No click

Default Re: Solenoid questions. PDS drive

1. Normally open.

2. Actually, the voltage drop across the pre-charge resistor is typically more than 0.5V, but the controller side large terminal will be less than the battery side large terminal when the solenoid is not energized. The low voltage drop may indicate a bad controller.

3. With key on and a direction selected, but pedal not pressed, you should have battery pack voltage on the yellow wire and you will measure the battery pack voltage on the blue wire if the solenoid coil is intact.

When the pedal is press, the controller is told to connect the blue wire to B-, which energizes the solenoid.

4. Should be same as 3. above in both F and R. Another indicator of a bad controller.

Could be a bad pedal switch plus a bad F/R switch, but my guess is a bad controller.
