Wiring to eliminate reverse

Hello,

New member here! I hope I am posting in the correct section...

I am building a scooter using a motor from what I believe is an EZGO TXT cart. I have been thinking it was a series motor, but I just read something that makes me think it might be sepex... not sure, hopefully it doesn't matter. Anyway I want to eliminate the forward/reverse switch as I won't need it. My question is, to wire the motor and controller in the absence of these components, can I just wire A2 to S1and S2 to M- or alternatively wire A2 to s2 and s1 to M-? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the type of motor is the main thing you need to find out
if your motor is marked s1 and a1 i think it is a series motor
f1 and a1 is sepex

As far as your question, did you get a donor cart or just parts?

You need to know if it's a series or sepex motor. Find that out first. If it's series just don't use a FNR switch and you will only go in one direction. If it's SEPEX you want to wire the controller to always be in forward. Easy to do.

Thanks to all for your replies. I bought parts separately off Craigslist, I didn't part a cart out. So unfortunately I don't have much information about what kind of cart my parts came from. My original research pointed me towards having a series motor because of the S1, S2 markings, but the wires are thin and many which I saw on the sticky in this forum indicates a sepex motor. Most other identification techniques require information about the rest of the cart, so I'm kind of stuck.

But assuming it is series, I found some information supporting my idea of wiring B+ to A1, A2 to S1, and S2 to M-, but I'm still not certain whether I should connect the A2 pole on the motor to the A2 lug on the controller. I understand that the A2 lug is for plug braking, which I don't really think I need. I just don't want to leave it off and then fry my controller or have it fault out and not run.

I've tried to upload my schematic. We'll see if it works.

All thoughts are greatly appreciated

My motor says series on it so assuming it has its factory sticker on it would it not as well?

Let's start with determining if the motor is series or sepex.

Looking into it from the output shaft end you'll see four field windings surrounding the armature. In a series motor they will be made of thick wires while in a sepex motor they will be made of thin wires.

Picture-1 is a series motor and Picture-2 is a sepex motor.

The Curtis 1204-009 is a 24V to 36V - 275A series controller with a 0-5K throttle input. (Attached is the Curtis manual for that controller family.)

I cannot make out everything on the schematic you posted, I cannot see the details and labeling of the solenoid activation circuit, but the with the A2 cable eliminated, the motor ought to run.

Looks like it will only go to about 66% throttle since a 10k pot in parallel with a 5k pot maxes out at 3.33k. Intentional?

Just a comment on the usage of the A2 controller terminal, If You connect the Motor A2 to Controller A2, you must connect Motor A1 to Controller B+.

Edit: Just looked at your diagram on the computer and it is right, I did not see it clear on the phone earlier.
