US1800 battery max voltage
I have a quick question regarding US1800 batteries and their maximum voltage when charging. Just want to make sure I'm not overcharging or leaving it on too long. Had charger on and came back to an even 40.0 volts all over.
What is the max that battery should have/is able to have? Thanks! Sorry, should mention cart is a 36 volt cart. |

Re: US1800 battery max voltage
40V is well below the on-charge voltage normally reached by all 36V chargers.
The legacy (old technology) chargers didn't shut off until the on-charge voltage was in the 44V to 46V range and the on-charge voltage with more modern chargers (dV/dT technology) can climb several volts higher than that. In a nutshell, a lead-acid wet-cell deep-cycle battery is not fully charged until the on-charge voltage stops climbing while a charging current is passing through it, so you could see an on-charge voltage of over 50V. Attached are the charging recommendations from US Battery for their batteries and Voltage vs SoC table from them. The voltage to be used with the SoC table is taken 12 hours after the charging ceases. |

Re: US1800 battery max voltage
Alright. Appreciate the information! I currently have a Schauer charger. Good to know I got lots more time to leave it on!

What model is it? ------- Undercharging due to the on-charge voltage not going high enough is an issue with US Battery batteries. Most golf cart battery chargers are designed for charging Trojan batteries and may not fully charge US Battery products. The attached Technical Service Bulletin provides some information about this. |

Re: US1800 battery max voltage
The attached brochure says it goes to 2.47VPC and US Battery wants 2.55VPC, so it may be undercharging.
I'd contact both US Battery and Schauer to find out for sure. |

Re: US1800 battery max voltage
Ok, I had it turned off and was gone for a bit. When I came back, I turned the charger back on and I could hear what sounded to be a bubbling noise.

Batteries make that noise when charging.

Re: US1800 battery max voltage
Ok. I had just never heard it do that before and was getting nervous.

Spewing acid out of caps is not normal though. Haha
