Default 2010 EZGO RXV Charging Issues

My father-in-law surprised my daughter with a 2010 EZGO RXV cart about a year ago. Everything was perfect until about a month ago when my daughter plugged the charger in (it's a power wise QE) and it immediately tripped the breaker in my house. I unplugged it and reset the breaker and tried again with the same result. I tried other receptacles and the same thing happened... I bought another charger (same charger) and all was well for about two weeks and now it is doing the same thing - tripping the breaker in my house as soon as it is plugged in.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it possible that I just have two bad chargers or could the cart be the issue (but it trips the breaker even if not plugged into the cart)? Help!

Sounds like a direct short in the charger causing the breaker to overload and trip as soon as its plugged in. If this is the problem the real question is what caused the short to begin with in the charger. You don't think maybe something making the charger to over heat to melt something inside do you. This is going to sound weird but put you noise to the charger and smell. you will now if you smell a burt smell if the charger is toast.

That's what I was thinking too. I opened the charger and didn't see anything obvious, but I am far from knowing what I am looking at too. I will try the 'sniff test' though.
If it is a direct short, and I agree that's what it seems to be, I wonder what would cause two chargers to do this? Could it be something in the cart that caused it?

Have you tried replacing the breaker (breakers can get weak when they get old and trip at too low of amperage), these chargers draw about 12 amps, also is there anything else on the same circuit, if so that may be causing it to trip.

I haven't tried replacing the breaker, but I have tried it on three different circuits with the same results. The breaker that handles the receptacle the charger is normally plugged into also handles my utility room. There is an upright freezer and of course lights on that same circuit.

If the freezer is running at the same time as u plug in charger on a 20 amp breaker that would do it. Try pluging it in from a different area of the house where you know its on a different circuit and a different breaker.

I would think that if there was something wrong with the cart it would have shown up right away with a new charger. Maybe a bad charger. If you bought it new it should have some kind of warranty.

My daughter normally charges it, but I asked her and she said she plugs the charger in, then plugs the charger into the cart. The breaker trips before it is ever plugged into the cart.
