Cost of upgrades 2007 Ez-Go

I have tried to fix my 2007 ezgo and despite the help of the experts here, I am still unable to figure out my issues.

So.... I have taken it to a good reputable shop in my area.

They said if I go with a new controller that I will also need a new motor or it will be a worthless upgrade.

Any idea on cost for a good 400 amp controller and new motor installed?

I am in GA.

If the shop is reputable, I would think you could rely on them to treat you fairly. As far as the pricing on parts, just search a few of the sponsors on here. I would get a controller that can run 36-48V. That way you can up grade some more later.

We do hundreds of upgrades a year without a new motor? You don't hear my customers yelling worthless upgrade
And we can't answer your question very well without knowing the drive system in your cart. See chart attached.

Basically a new 400a control is about 400-450.00 and shop labor is 50-60.00 an hour. $500 should cover it

Thanks. I was a little thrown off by that comment as well. I hadn't seen that mentioned on here on other similar threads.

I'll see what they have to say tomorrow.

All you need is a XCT400pds alltrax control and HD solenoid nets you 35% more torque and 22 mph What more do you do you want!? Really?

What are you trying to do!? Make a drag cart? Add a D2 motor and get 30 mph?

I have this same cart, I simply installed the XCT400TXT48 control and HD solenoid. The cart jumps to life when asked. Torque is increased by 35% and top speed is just under 25 mph ON THE STOCK MOTOR. It will spin the rear tires on grass or dirt if asked.

Anybody saying it needs a motor for any upgrade is either not knowledgeable or over selling the project.

30MPH on stock height tires (18") and stock differential gears (12.44:1) is 6969RPM at the motor and that is obtainable from a stock PDS motor, but not with a 36V battery pack.

The 22MPH Scotty mentioned is a bit on the conservative side. Or at least my 2008 TXT PDS cart with good wheel bearings, brakes not dragging, without rear seat or windshield and a reasonably good 36V battery pack as well as good high current cables, did 24MPH with a stock PDS motor and 17" tall tires and later did a bit over 28MPH with a 42V battery pack.

The bottom line is: If your stock PDS is in good shape, just because you are upgrading to an Alltrax XCT48400PDS controller is not a valid reason to replace it.

If you want more speed and torque, go to 42V or 48V the next time you replace the battery pack. If that isn't enough oomph, then it is time to consider an aftermarket motor.

If upping the pack voltage is something you might consider doing, get the Super-Duty solenoid the will work at 42V and 48V as well as 36V. Otherwise, you'll have to replace the solenoid when you change pack voltage.

Finally go the cart back....new solenoid and a AllTrax 400 AMP Controller installed.

The guy that mentioned the motor was just the guy who unloaded incoming carts....the tech called and said no need for a motor.

It is fast and much better torque up hills.

I do have a question. Attached is the picture of the new controller....but the cover that had the 'Run' and 'Tow' switch on it is gone? I am worried about moisture getting in?

The XCT controller is a sealed unit and is designed to operate without a cover that impedes airflow.

If you drive the cart very hard, you will probably want to get the optional fan.

I have a 2004TXT PDS, 36 volt, XCT400pds, and it has plenty of startup torque, it will kick up gravel (not something I do on a regular basis !!), if you wish to wear out your tires. We run in loose sand going to the beach, and it does very well. On the 'flat' we can get 22mph, which is plenty for us. Not many hills here, so I cannot comment on that. Do go for the fan, far easier than installing it later, plus it's there if you need it...
