EZGOTXT48V - Full throttle or 3/4 Better?
Ok relatively new to electric carts.
I have read some comments that seem to indicate that running at full throttle for extended periods may either reduce the drive time between charging (seems to makes sense) or at worse could damage the motor ( don't understand). Another question; if running at full throttle is ok, i have also seen comments that your should not run at full throttle while going up hills but should run at 3/4 throttle to reduce load on motor. Is this correct? Any help is appreciated. |

Re: EZGOTXT48V - Full throttle or 3/4 Better?
Obviously, speed doesn't come free. Energy for additional speed has to come from somewhere and that would be from the batteries. My CC can do about 23-24 mph but the 4 year old batteries will need charged within 1/2 hour of driving like that. If I keep it at 15 or so (the speed limit in the campground) I can pretty much go all day still without needing to charge.
The motor wouldn't be impacted unless other components in the cart have been upgraded. Everything in my EZ Go has been upgraded from 36 to 48v except for the motor. I don't want to run that one wide open all day. |

Full throttle will reduce the range some. (Not dramatically) As far as damage, heat is the issue. Your motor will build more heat at full throttle than at 3/4. There's no issue going full throttle from hole to hole (uphill). But if your talking about going several miles in your town without a break, you may want some kind of temp guage..

Re: EZGOTXT48V - Full throttle or 3/4 Better?
There are a ton of variables, but heat kills motors and motors run more efficiently in their mid-range than they do at high or low RPM.
Motors either convert electrical energy into torque or into heat. Efficiency is the ratio of how much energy is converted torque vs how much is converted to heat. For example the efficiency a series motor may be 85% at 3000 RPM, but only 75% at 4000 RPM and at 2000 RPM, so that motor in a cart would run the coolest and last the longest when running at 3000 RPM as well as having the greatest range on a single battery charge. The MPH that corresponds to the motor RPM depends on the hire height and differential gear ratio. On the other hand, the efficiency curve of a sepex motor is more complex due to field mapping, but in very general terms, mid-range is more efficient the high or low RPM since the field excitation tends to be about mid-range when the armature RPM is in the mid-range spectrum. |
