Wiring question
I have a '99 ezgo txt that I've stripped to nothing and started building back up. Was 36 volts, but now I have a new 48 volt battery pack, 2ga wires, torque motor, and I picked up an spm48500 with solenoid from scottyB. I bought an RXV charger and charging receptacle and need help on how to wire in the receptacle. On a side note, I think I have read somewhere that the receptacle needs to be wired in before the cart will power on at all? I hope this is the case since I followed all other wiring diagrams on all my new electronics.

Re: Wiring question
I do not think you have to wire in the charge plug to be able to run with the aftermarket controller. Consult your wiring diagram to see if there is anything in series with your key switch.

Re: Wiring question
Yeah everything is wired exactly as its pictures in the diagram except the charger receptacle. Could the solenoid or resistor be backwards? From what I have read, they have no polarity and can be wired either way

Re: Wiring question
Yes that is correct except the diode is VERY polarity sensitive. Tell us is the solenoid clicking or is the controller LED light coming on?
View your picture, turn it upright, close the view. Then the pic stays upright not upside down unless you are posting with the cellphone in which case all bets are off. |

Re: Wiring question
Guys, Don't the rxv have a reed switch in the rec. (I know it's not a reed switch) but I have been told it works the same way. Just asking.

Re: Wiring question
Not sure what a reed switch is. I can look. Still at a loss for what to do about making my cart move without manually pushing it..

Re: Wiring question
Apparently the powers that be at EZGO don't believe a golf cart should be able to be driven while the charger is plugged into it, so they have done things to disable their carts when the charger is plugged in.
An early attempt was a reed switch in the cart's charge receptacle whose normally closed contacts were opened by a magnet located in the charger's plug. One side of the reed switch was connected to the positive terminal in the cart's charge receptacle and the other side supplied B+ (battery pack positive) to either the solenoid activation circuit, or powered up the controller's electronics, or some combination of both depending or the drive type and model controller used. The smaller of the three wires coming out of the backside of a reed switch equipped charge receptacle has to have B+ on it for cart to run. A later attempt was substituting an electronic circuit for the reed switch. The solid state switch fails less often than the far more fragile reed switch, but when it fails the entire charge receptacle has to be replaced rather than just a relatively inexpensive component part. ------------ Phil: There are four wires coming out of the backside of a RXV type charge receptacle. They are connected as follows. Red = Battery pack's main positive terminal. Black = Battery pack's main negative terminal. Grey = Battery temperature sensor. Not an electrical connection, just measures the temperature of the battery it is connected to and sends the information to a charger, if the charger is designed to use the information, it will adjust charging rate according to battery temperature. I believe it is connected to a specific battery in a RXV, but I'm pretty sure you can connect it to any battery terminal it will reach in your setup. You said you had a RXV charger, so you probably want to connect it to something. Blue = Cart disable. The wire has to have B+ on it for your cart to run. If the blue wire does not have B+ on it when nor charger is connect to cart, the RXV charge receptacle is bad and has to be replace, or you have to connect B+ to the blue wire from a different source. Attached is a schematic of a SPM in a TXT. The Reed switch or electronic equivalent is in the upper left corner and is labeled "Interlock". Get B+ on the wire attached to the Red/White wire that feeds MS-2/MS-4 and your cart out to run. |
