Default Reverse lights for RXV off key switch.

Ive been told that i cannot have automatic reverse lights on my 09 rxv because the switch is tied to the computer. I thinking there has to be some sort of workaround. Its dark like crazy behind the cart at nite.

rear LED flood light kit with toggle switch would be a good idea for crazy dark

I read that before about the RXV but never an explanation of why that is the case, just "tied" to the computer would be not a problem unless the key switch is actually "powered" by the controller.

Does it have a reverse buzzer?

If so maybe something like this would work:

the reverse buzzer is driven by the controller not directly from keyswitch (it has very limited capacity to power stuff, and its draw is monitored by the controller), a terrible place to add stuff. the reverse input circuit from the keyswitch is hooked into the controllers logic board, it expects a clean signal. looking at the diagram, yep key is powered from the harness, but too many cases of fried controllers from wiring stuff to keyswitch. i cant suggest doing it. too many variations of how devices behave (solenoids send a voltage spike when they open, led regulators act dirty when power first turns on/as it turns off, errant links to ground from voltage reducers, ect). Might work fine, might cost $1500 to fix. Too Many Variables. just use your own switch.

put a momentary push button switch in the floor like the old horn buttons used to be on TXT's. Then when you go to back up, push the switch with your left foot.

Please do not connect anything to rxv factory wire harness.
Too risky.

It could be done using a microcontroller.

Basically you would send the reverse buzzer signal through a microcontroller like an arduino or something similiar and have it do nothing but detect the signal. Then the microcontroller triggers a relay to switch on the reverse lights. That would work and work well, but it's way overkill for something so simple. Personally I would add a seperate switch as everybody else has suggested.

Hell if you wanted to, you could do it with a microcontroller using a microphone. Set it to the frequency of the reverse buzzer +/- a few hertz and it could do the same thing without even being tied into the cart at all. But again, overkill for something so simple.

If it were me, I'd do it the second way because any excuse to make a gadget is good enough for me lol.

But everybody else is correct, don't touch the factory wiring if at all. It doesn't take much to fry a controller.
