Solenoid Question
Cart: EZGO Series TXT, 48V upgrade. Alltrax SPM48500. ScottyB's HD F&R and Super Duty (MZJ400) solenoid.
Question. solenoid clicks, but no go. 0 voltage between b- and m- on solenoid with gas pedal pressed. Full pack voltage between small terminals on solenoid when pedal pressed. Almost full pack voltage between big terminals on solenoid when pedal not pressed. 0 voltage between big terminals on solenoid when pedal pressed. Is my solenoid bad? 2. Normal 3. Normal 4. Normal 5. No What is the voltage between B- and M- when pedal is pushed just far enough for solenoid to click? If it is not full battery pack voltage, than there is an open somewhere in a high current cable, connection or contact. Also could be bad motor windings or brushes. |

Quick and dirty test. Measure voltage from main negative on battery pack to each of the four studs on the F/R switch. All should have full pack voltage when pedal is pushed just far enough for solenoid to click. |

Re: Solenoid Question
JohnnieB, how is #4 normal? Shouldn't he be reading full pack voltage on each of the large terminals when the solenoid is engaged??

Re-read #4. He said "between the big terminals", so he would read 0V when the solenoid contacts are closed. However, in re-reading #3, I see I might have made a mistake. If there is a Pre-charge resistor installed the reading ought to be about 5V or so. Without the resistor, between the big terminals will read full pack voltage or very close to it, depending on the input impedance of the voltmeter being used. |
