Default Ausco Brakes

Small delema ---- Love the Ausco brakes - but now have an intermittent rubbing sound coming from the passenger side. It follows the rotation speed, not very loud, but it's there. Pulled the rim, checked all bolts, etc., everything looks OK. No debris in there, but blew it out anyhow..... Axle nut is torqued properly. Underneath, the plate that the cable ends go into, has a slight cant (one side a bit more forward than the other). I see no way that I could adjust one side and not the other. Looking for some thoughts, before I start tearing things apart. Planning to put a run-out gauge on the rotor, just to be sure that there is no wobble there....

Since the brakes are cable operated the pads tend to float quite a bit. Hydraulic systems operate very differently than these do. What I mean is some contact between the pad and the rotor is going to happen. It won't slow you down or heat up because there is no pressure being applied, but the sound it makes can be noticeable. Mine do it too.

You might check for play in your axle bearings, if they are worn and have slack in them it could cause the rotors to contact the pads.

I guess while i have the runout guage on there, i could push/pull in/out on the hub to see how much play is there? is there another way??

I think some guys have used 'brake squeal' sprays with success.

It's never gotten worse and I've learned to live with it. On my cart it's very subtle, not a big deal.

I hear the center caps of my alloy wheels clanking around more than my Ausco disc brakes.
