Default EZGO PDS 36v to 48v Conversion

So I think I've decided to convert to 48v instead of 42v and was hoping someone can help with what additional changes need to be made. I have an 06 ezgo pds with 6" lift and 23" tires. I've already upgraded to an alltrax xct500, HD solenoid, and 2g cables.

I'm guessing if I go with 6x 8v Batts I won't need any additional cables but from what I've read I will need a voltage reducer for my lights and any accessories I might add.

1. I have the option of either the trojan t875 or crown Batts. I've heard a lot of good about crown but they will cost over $100 more. What's would you guys recommend?

2. Is there a wiring diagram that I should follow and if so what should I know about converting over to 48v?

3. I plan on going with either a admiral b1 or d2 motor but would like to keep regen braking. Which is the best for top speed and moderate off road usage?

4. Any suggestions or necessary items or info needed to make this conversion?

I want to thank everyone in advance for any guidance recieved. I'm just a bit nervous about pulling the trigger on this project as it will cost me upwards of 2k.

You will also need a 48V solenoid and 48V charger. You should get a voltage reducer if you don't have one already on your cart. (48V to 12V) You are correct that 6x8 batteries will work with the cables you have assuming that everything reaches. The XCT500 will work fine on 48V but your HD solenoid is probably a 36V one now.

a. 8V batteries have both terminals on the same side, so the cables connecting the batteries together may not be long enough. See attached.

b. You need a voltage reducer or separate 12V battery for the accessories whether or not you upgrade the battery pack voltage.

1. Flip a coin. Get the highest AH battery at the best price.

2. Other than the battery pack (diagram attached) there is no other wiring to change.

3. Talk to Scotty at Carts unlimited about which is best for your application.

4. If you haven't already, adjust the max RPM in the XCT to 6500 or less.

After looking at my current set up I believe the cables I purchased from scottyb will work with the 48v configuration.

The battery to battery cables are much longer for 6/8v than they are for 6/6v because the post layout is different. The 6v battery has posts at diagonal corners and the 8v has posts on the same long side.

It seems like 42v may be the easiest conversion then since I won't necessarily need a voltage reducer. All I currently running is head and tail lights.

I have Trojan T875 and they have been great. My neighbor has the Crowns and he likes them too.

I got an Admiral D2 from Scotty B about a month ago. I like it. I do 25-26 mph @ 6000 RPM limit on 19 inch tires. I still have regen braking.

Good luck!

42v is the sweet spot for PDS stock motor - on 48v the motor response is (for lack of a better word) violent.
I have a 42v Ezgo running a 500a XCT and D&D torque motor hitting 25mph on 20" knobbie tires
Go up to 42v by Adding the 7th battery. This requires only one 14" cable. And a 42v charger.

This upgrade is good for series carts too.
I have a 99 series cart with 7/6v batteries too with SR48500 control and stock motor on 20" knobbies.

I can't wait I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a DPI 42v charger and Admiral B2 motor from scottyb at carts unlimited.
I just hope this isn't too big of a job. I've got very little electrical experience and most of it has been screwing around with this cart. I'm hoping I pull at least 25mph I guess only time will tell.
