Exclamation '98 36v series drive sudden loss of power in fwd motor clicking sound

Long time lurker first time poster. I've search but nothing exactly to the symptoms we experienced today....

I installed a ScottyB inverter yesterday. I tapped the green wire from the ignition near the FnR switch housing. Install went smooth (thanks to the flawless diagrams and directions). We worked around the yard today hauling some brush and the cart was working as usual.

While bouncing around the yard the rear bottom seat came loose/off and I think some of the mounting screws came loose. (hopefully not shorting out anything) I think I found them all....

We were hot and went for a quick cruise to cool off. While on the way back, going down a hill, it all of a sudden sounded like when you put a card in your spokes as a kid. You could feel it and the sound was very apparent. Pulled over and couldn't find anything...then we notice the painful truth....

This 36 volt cart that used to struggle up hills before new batteries didn't want to go up hill at all now...we barely made it home. Reverse is fine.

Could me tapping the "trigger" wire from the ignition switch at the controller caused this issue? Did I smoke my motor or controller? It really feels like the motor is humming but it's really hard to explain....

Thank you in advance for your input and responses!

free wheeling an electric cart down a hill will grenade a motor

Wait, WHAT?

We've had a blast bombing hills around here. Hit some scary MPH's numbers....

Being a series motor, is it really that bad to let it roll down a hill?

I am new to carts and have learned so much from this forum and ScottyB. This is news to me....

So You think it's the motor, I replace it...then what? I've been in touch with ScottyB and really want to upgrade the controller and solenoid... but....I'm not ready to upgrade the motor just because...

Could me tapping into the trigger wire (green) off the ignition switch have caused this or ironic timing?

Have you checked the Drum on the Drivers side for signs of excessive wear to the splines?

Have you checked the FnR board for melting?

Have you checked the brushes in the motor?

The fact it is running fine in reverse would lead me to believe 1 of the 3 I mention are the issue.

I was pretty bummed out last night and bailed on any further troubleshooting. I plan to go back out later today and check it out further. When you say drum on the drivers side... are you referring to the brake drum or transaxle?

Thank you for the response and I'll post my findings later....
