36v motor on 48v????
Is it possible to run a 36v motor on 48v? I have upgraded the controller to an alltrax 48400 and upgraded all cables. I will need to upgrade the f/r switch and solenoid but just wondering if the stock motor can handle the extra voltage. I do plan on a new motor at some point but trying not to break the bank all at once. Just trying to do it a little at a time. Thanks for any advice.

Re: 36v motor on 48v????
What type? The series motors are great on 48v, I think the DCS motor is fine on 48v, the PDS motor is short lived on 48v, 42v should be considered max for stock PDS motor. You still can convert to 48v, just turn motor output down a little in the controller.

Yes. I should have said it was a series cart. Thank you for your replies. Sounds like I am going to 48v.

Re: 36v motor on 48v????
And did you hear about going to 48v, I hear it's pretty awesome! Lol! As has been said, your 36v series cart will be 33% more fun & awesome on 48v. When I got my 36v marathon, I immediately switched it to 48v, I knowingly did it the wrong way, I just put 8v batteries in, and switched to a 48v charger, left the stock 36v controller and solenoid. I knew that was a bad idea but I did it on purpose. To see what would happen (I already had a 48v controller waiting). My bad plan worked for about a month. Then, it crapped out and had zero torque. The controller was badly injured, took a mile to get to top speed, and couldn't climb a 1 inch curb. This was a dumb experiment to see how long it would last. Not long...... Switched to a AXE I had laying around, but continued to run the 36v solenoid on 48v. Was running a stock ezgo txt high speed motor (18ish mph @36v), ran 23-24 mph on 48v. Keep in mind I was using the best used batteries I could find (about 45 minute discharge test). Ran good for my needs at the time, back & forth to work. If I ever get another 36v cart, the very first thing I would do is convert to 48v. (when you buy a used electric cart, you always plan that the batteries are not as good as claimed by the seller, add the price of a new set to your cost estimate). Super long story condensed, Yes, make your 36v cart build into a 48v cart build, every time, unless you just want to flip it for cash real quick.
