Cool Controller differences?

I have a 2004 36v ezgo. I am wanting to upgrade to use at my hunting camp as well as camp grounds. It already has heavy duty 4 gauge wires on the batteries and everything else is stock. I was looking at controllers and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the differences would be between a 400 amp and a 500 amp?

What are you wanting to accomplish? I would say if everything is running, why change anything?

Are you planning on up-grading the motor in the near future ? I've been told that a 500a controller will eventually burn up a stock motor, but a 400a will not ! You are also looking at around $100-$125 more in cost for the 500a.

eventually I would like to replace the motor but I was going to wait a while. If a 400 amp would make a good enough difference I will use it. I just bought my golf cart last year and I'm still learing about all the different ways to improve speed and torque.

I call bullshit ! A 500 amp controller will burn out a stock motor. A 7000 amp controller will not burn out a motor. Because controllers do not force amps to the motor they simply allow a specific motor
to draw whatever it is capable of drawing.... assuming the needed amps are available...... A controller is like a gate valve on a water line .... a small valve will restrict the flow ( amps in our case) of water and a larger valve will ALLOW more water ( amps) to flow when demanded but it is only a valve and does not force or send or in anyway increase the motor draw beyond it's natural capacity. WOT is WOT no matter how you get there. Resistor carts ran straight juice from the pack without a 'controller' to limit the draw...so yeah, this statement is bullshit

It is and it isn't, scotty. Your logic is correct to a point. Just imagine a beefed up cart in the woods jammed into a hole against a tree trunk. You hit the gas and get no movement because the cart is physically restrained. The tires don't spin to relieve the stress. You keep your foot down, drawing energy from the pack. A higher amp controller will allow more current to reach the motor and in this restricted environment the motor will grenade sooner because the higher amp potential is available.
Now, whether the statement 400 vs 500 is valid or not remains to be proven.....

OKay... The scenario you describe is re-dickless I would take an idiot to facilitate... And a smaller controller would not save the motor?
NOw.....what kind of an argument is that?

Imagine the same hunter stuck in the mud blows his motor up right? He gets out of the cart to walk back to camp and starts to sink in the mud... He begins to struggle but the more he struggles the more he sinks......if he stands still he sinks slower... His heart pounds heavy in his chest ..... he is out of shape from riding around in a golf cart instead if hiking..... If he stands still he will sink and die. If he struggles to free himself he will die of a heart attack. Now...which controller should he have bought?

I was just repeating what I was told when I was in the market for a controller and I'm pretty sure it was by some of the experts right here on this forum, but I'm to lazy to go look for the post
