Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
Hello to all,
I am in the market for a new cart. I have owned ONLY EZGO TXT NON-PDS Carts (3 in my life). They have always been stock. I am ready for a new cart and want to upgrade. There is a local golf cart reseller which offers a 2012 EZGO RXV (see link below) which they mod. I really dont care to lift, I do want wheel upgrades. I have read most posts about RXV vs TXT and most of the ones not liking the RXV are older and 08-09 models. How do you guys feel about the ultimate package below? Would I save a lot by going with a fleet RXV and modding myself? http://www.topdoggolfcarts.com/pricing-page.html |

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
well IF you are going with a RXV....the difference between the BASE model and the Ultimate listed is $1600....and for all the extras you get (parts), plus the labor cost to install them, AND paint the cart your choice of color....I think that's a good deal.

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
I would agree that you get a lot for $1,600 when you consider labor although most of those mods are fairly quick to install and could be done in an afternoon with the right tools, but am concerned that the base model price is high. For a price point comparison I bought my 2010 RXV about 6 months ago (mid year 2012's woudl have the Curtis controller vs the Danaher in mine) for just under $2,000 from a nearby wholesaler. Most of the ones they sell are off lease / refurbs, but this one was a private party trade in, came with 18 month old batteries, but otherwise similar to the base model shown above. I have since added about $600 worth of parts (new flip windshield, higher profile terrain tires/wheels without lift, HD dual action rear springs (needed for adults on back seat), 12V DC-DC converter (my cart was built about a month before they came standard), new motor brake. I still need to rebuild the rear seat, overall foam and cover is in good shape, but plywood has rotted out.
p.s. profile picture on the left is from the day I bought it |

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
Those prices are comparable to what we have down here on the other side of Atlanta.
I just did this about six months ago purchasing the cart below (also a 2012). Some things to consider: 1. Consider getting 8v batteries. Apples to apples comparison: longer range per charge and longer service life. Dealer may or may not upcharge for this. My builder had a small upcharge but it included a brand new Lester charger. 2. All LED light kits are available and shouldn't be much more if any. Very bright and look cool (modern). 3. My cart has a Double Take roof. These roofs have the side curtain rails built in. If you think you might add side curtains (aka weather enclosure) in the future getting this or a similar roof now will save down the road. Also stronger IMO. 4. If you haven't looked at rear seat options you might want to study this a little. Easier to get this right now. Will cost a lot more to change it later. 5. The factory battery energy (SOC) meter although plug n play is not very accurate. I chose to use a standard Curtis model 906 bar meter for my extended family/house guests that might use the cart and a digital meter for me. Neither of these are or should be hooked to the key switch so they are always on but could be switched separately if you wanted. 6. Unique key switch. These are available plug n play. However apparently there are only 6 different variations. I went with a standard key and a hidden kill switch. Just some thoughts. Non of this may be important to you. You could probably build it yourself cheaper and there are lots of youtube videos to help but it is very risky to rummage around RXV electronics if you don't know exactly what you're doing. |

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
I have a 2010 RXV. Most days I love it. I am fighting a charging issue that pops up every once in a while. Other than that I like it. Its fast (26mph), has enough power for me, although more torque to pop curbs would be nice. I take my off road daily and always hear comments from my passengers saying they've never seen a golf cart do the things mine does.
I added seatbelts like your ultimate package has. All my family members with kids love it for when we put little ones on the back, especially at higher speeds. |

I just recently purchased a 2013 RXV and can't say enough good things about it. It came with all new modifications already installed. After owning Badboy buggies this was what I had been looking for all along.Power and long battery life!

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
If you like the ultimate package and plan on doing those mods anyway, I would go for that one.
I think that no matter what you get, there will always be something that you want to change or add. Getting something that already has most of what you want will just make it easier for you in the long run. But I agree, you need to check the quality of the options they added and make sure it isnt something you will have to change out later, this would just defeat the purpose of buying with the options already installed. |

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
Thank you all for your responses.
I really wanted an RXV. I got a TXT PDS. I based my decision on the following. There are 2 golf cart repair shops near me and I went to both. Neither of them will do anything to an RXV except batteries/wires. They arent certified to touch the controllers. Just this was enough as I sometimes dont have the time to fix myself and if the cart has issues and im in one of my busy times at work, I will just have a tech come out from the local shop. ALSO, I found a 2007 in PRESTINE, LIKE NEW CONDITION with one month old batteries for 2600 which I think was a decent deal considering it was nearly perfect. |

Re: Purchasing a Cart (looking for opinions)
Nothing wrong with Ezgo PDS Easy to boost speed and torque. Everything available and every cart shop knows them well. It is a proven drive system and was my favorite for many years. Congrats on the new cart
