Default Leaf springs DIY

Since the weather is starting to cool down...I am think about some things I can do to my cart.

I installed a flip seat before summer and think perhaps I should put a new set of leaf springs on the back.

I have watched I think every YouTube video on doing it.

It seems fairly straightforward. Is this something a newbie could do?

I have a non lifted cart. The videos online mostly show working on lifted carts. It would seem a lifted cart maybe a little easier because it gives you more room to work...

Thx

IF your handy it is definitely something you could do. My son and I did ours two years ago after we installed lift kit and it was easy. Just make sure you have jack stands and a floor jack. Nothing is more rewarding then looking at your finished work.

You will be pleased that you did it. Good luck and keep us posted !

The only thing I would add is to only replace one side at a time so the motor doesn't rotate the axle tube. The biggest problem some have had was badly rusted bolts. Mine punched right out without a fight.

Yes, the leaf springs are pretty easy to change. Mine is not lifted either, but I did it no problem. I did purchase a battery powered impact wrench for the job....which is now my favorite tool in the garage!

with the rear seat spend a few extra bucks and get the DUAL action leaf springs, they had an extra 200lbs of load capacity to the back but when no one is in the rear seat they ride like a factory spring. Huge difference... i recommend them for any rear seat kit i do.

Bird is correct on that. That is what I put on my non lifted cart. It rides like a dream. With or without people on the back.

Just did them last night. First side took me about an hour, second side about 20 minutes. It does make things easier if you have an air ratchet or attachement for your drill.

9/16 and 3/4 sockets, along with a 9/16 open-end wrench is about all that's needed. Of course a jack too.

Bringing this message thread back.

Got my new leaf springs delivered today.

Have a really newbie question...

When you jack up the back of the cart, where is it safe to lift the cart?

Is the bag well strong enough or am I looking for the frame?

I have jacked the cart up before under the axel, but that is not an option with changing out the leaf springs.

Thx

That is actually the best place to jack up the cart from. Jack up the cart from the axle, then place axle stands under the frame, remove jack and go to work.
If you jack from the frame, you have no place to put the axle stands. If you do not have any axle stands, I strongly suggest you use something OTHER than a jack to hold the cart up while you are working on it.
