92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
I have a marathon wit the 4844 axe controller. My question is about the potentimeter. I have the new one with the blue and brown wires. Can someone tell me where to plug these up or are they even needed?

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
There are 2 models of pot for this cart. Original style had 4 leads, 2 pair of 2 wires... and replacement pots often have just 2 leads. The blue and brown are the throttle signal wires, then connect to the speed control on pins 2 and 3 in any order.
The original pot had a second set (wht and blk) the went to the reverse micro switch - when these 2 wires were connected (joined) by the switch the pot output was reduced by 50% for half speed reverse. |

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
Yes this potentiometer has 2 wires blue and brown that go to the micro switch up front and 2 wires blue and brown that go to the controller. The controller I have 4844 axe has 4 pins. Number 1 pin is power 2 and 3 are throttle and 4 is 1/2 reverse.

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
Pin-1 = From pedal switch. (Power)
Pins 2 & 3 = Throttle input from pot box. Doesn't matter which of the two wires goes on which pin. Pin-4 = 1/2 speed. Not used with a 4 wire pot box. |

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
So do I even worry about connecting the 2 wires from the pot that goes to microswitch on the f and r switch. Last question I promise. Thanks

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
If you want the cart to run at 1/2 speed in reverse, you either have to connect the two wires from the pot-box to the double microswitch, or connect a wire from the switch that makes the beeper sound to Pin-4 on the controller. If you do neither, the cart will run just as fast going backwards as it does going forward, which can be dangerous.
EZGO created 1/2 speed reverse in their early cart that had a 0-5KΩ throttle by placing a 5Ω fixed resistor in parallel with the 0-5KΩ pot when the F/R was in the R position. This changed the throttle signal to the controller from 0-5KΩ to 0-2.5KΩ. When they went to the ITS type throttle system, that trick no longer worked, so they added some circuitry inside the controller that cut the ITS throttle signal in half when pack voltage was placed on Pin-4 (at least it is Pin-4 on some controllers.) |

Re: 92 ezgo marathon w/alltrax controller
P.S.
You can run the low speed wires to a simply on/off switch hidden anywhere in the cart to used as a kiddie switch, if you have little ones driving the cart |
