Default 2000 TXT Series cart --new controller??

2000 EZGO series cart, Cart was no go. Stopped to talk to someone a couple of blocks from house, pushed pedal and nothing. Towed it home to check out.
Up on the jack stands.
Batts were at 38.4. No click from solenoid. Began checking continuity with DVM. Attached thin wire test lead with alligator clips to negative DVM probe and negative battery post, checking various wires, etc.
Maybe a senior moment but not thinking clearly touched the positive DVM lead to positive battery post. There was a flash and the thin wire negative test lead burned.

When I did get pedal response restored and solenoid operation motor would not run.

Followed instructions gleaned from various posts and Ezgo diagnostics in stickies and I find that there is continuity in both directions on controller between B- and M- terminals with cables disconnected and capacitors discharged. According to Jonnie B, this would indicate bad controller.

Solenoid check .. OK …3 volt drop across resistor/ large terminals. Full pack voltage when solenoid closes.

ITS check.... OK with voltage going from .41 up to 1.5 volts at full pedal.

Controller Output ... check.... FAIL!!
(-) probe on M- terminal (+) probe on B+ terminal
0 volts still 0 volts at full pedal!!

I will be getting a replacement stock controller. Don’t need upgrade as all travel is on paved roads with minimal grades.

Is there anything else electrical power wise that I should check on before running with the new controller?

If you do end up needing a stock size replacement DO NOT go with a stock control or a repaired stock control. Because for $399 you can get a 300a Alltrax SR control with higher output and reverse polarity protection, user interface, and water resistance - check it out

What I did not state is that this is not my cart. I feel that I need to fix this at my expense. There are other problems the owner will pay me to fix, but this is not his fault.

Does it need the extra amps for the use we put them to here?

What should I expect to pay? Rebuilt? Or is Scottyb's solution about the best I can do?

Am I wrong in thinking that the controller is now no good? If it is no good, did I ruin it by shorting across the battery posts??

Or could this have been caused by something else. Rear suspension spring bushings are totally gone. With cart up on stands rear drive system moves 4-5 inches side to side. Checked leads to motor. I have not found any bare wires.

You can google the many discussions we have had on the value of rebuilt controls here. I'm not a fan. I used to have to go out for free and swap out the warranty replacements until the warranty ran out. It does sound like your booboo was fatal. Maybe you can find a used one here?

Does anybody have a used Ezgo 1206 series controller, 3 post, 5 pin molex connector for sale.

Scotty, thanks for your input. I did read your comments on rebuilts over the weekend. I hoping to hear quality had gotten better.

Is there much modification to switch to the Altrax. That appears to be higher amp output. Will that require other modifications, solenoid, etc.?

Will that stress the motor?

I need to do this as inexpensively as possible. I do not clear much when fixing carts for my neighbors.

I would say no given the circumstances leading up to the cart's failure.

I have an unused 1206 buried in a back room full of stored New-Old-Stock electronics. I had bought it new back in 2002 or 2003 to keep on hand as a spare and never had a need for it. I looked for it yesterday and found the other NOS 2003 Alltrax AXE 7245 controller, but I have not yet found the 1206. I'll keep checking as time allows.

I'm pulling a stock controller from a 98 series txt now. Haven't done it yet, assuming that is the same? How soon would you need it?

Thanks Jonnie, Bob and Morrow for your replies.

I have found an Altrax AXE 4834 that is said to be unused for $250.
Seller says unit was purchased to use in an electric vehicle project about a year ago, but the project changed direction and it was never used.
He does not have the paper work that came with unit.

Would be about a 6 hr round trip to pick it up.

Other than appearance is there any bench tests that could be conducted that would indicate condition. DVM--OHMS----continuity??

Would like to get this project off my hands as soon as possible. Others are standing in line. (Wife's are next, she says!!)
