Default Did I fry my ez go 36volt motor? A95-4005A

I bought a used motor, A95-4005A, and was trying to test it. When I was applying 12 volts, I shorted out the S1 terminal to the A1 terminal and the S2 terminal to the A2 terminal.
After doing some more research, I found that I need to jump S1 to A2 and apply 12 volts to the S2 and A1 terminals. So, I tried that and the motor didn't turn, but the wires I was using to supply voltage and the jumper wire got warm.
Thanks for any help!
Vaughn

Was the motor mounted on an axle? With the open end of the motor not supported (on an axle or something), you can't test the motor with power. I doubt you damaged it by wiring it wrong, if it didn't start stinking of burning electronic varnish.

Thanks for the response. Yes, it's mounted on the transaxle.
It didn't smell of electronics or wire burning.
How can I test it with a volt or ohm meter? Or can I test it that way?
Thanks,
Vaughn

Try the motor test with the correct connections, if it runs - it's good. do not run it long or fast for a test. Series motor test below.

Thanks for your guys input, I really appreciate it.
I jumped S1 to A2 and then put 12 volts to A1 and S2. Motor didn't turn...no noise or smoke/smelling....
I am using a smaller battery so maybe it isn't able to provide enough amps?
Can I test with a car battery for now?
Thanks,
Vaughn

Thanks for the quick response scottyb.

I just have the rear axle with the transaxle/gearbox and the motor attached (like the picture that you attached, I don't have a full cart). I have the axle sitting on jack stands where its all off of the ground.

Is it possible that my smaller battery can't provide enough Amps? I am not familiar with these larger DC motors.

I'll try to hook up a car battery tomorrow.

The motor runs off 36 volts. So when testing with a 12 volt car/truck battery, the motor will spin slow, But it will let you know that the motor is good or not. It will not work with a small motorcycle battery

Thanks for the quick response and letting me know that a small battery (motorcycle) will not be sufficient.

I have successfully done this test many times with a cheapo harbor freight jump-start box with a small size battery. I'm starting to think the motor has problems.
