Default voltage reducer requierd?

Hi , I'm working on a friends Yamaha cart. It's a 36volt cart. My question is, should I put a voltage reducer on it like I did my ezgo? The only thing running off the batteries are the head lights and tail lights and they are not planning on adding anything in the future. I just put new batteries in it and would like to do the right thing to keep them healthy .I'd appreciate any advice I can get , thanks.

Yes, they need a reducer to prevent unbalancing the batteries. The draw from the lights will cause the batteries they are connected to to drop in voltage faster than the rest. The cart charger alone cannot bring those batteries up to par with the rest without overcharging the rest.

This is good info as I plan to add some 12 volt lights as well. Is there a particular brand of voltage reducer that you guys have had success with?

I have real good luck with this 30a 300w unit here. It has an important key switch feature so it is not left on when not in use. If left on the reducer will draw down the battery pack and it will not last as long as when just powered up when needed.

Now that I'm thinking about this, for occasional use like lighting, we could make the light switch the power up trigger wire. I'd be interested to know if any body has tried that.

Reducer and fuse kit with negative bus bar here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/12v-reducer--.html
