Question 2008 RXV with light kit, trying to get brake lights to work

I know a few of you here have figured this out and I really appreciate any help you can offer in this experience.

I have a 2008 RXV that was redone in 2010 with the OEM wiring harness (rectangular lights with halogen bulbs). Under the cup holder I have the purple and red wires on spade connectors just hanging there.

I've looked under the cup holder of a 2015 RXV with functioning brake lights and found a relay hooked up that looks similar to this EZGO walkaway relay: https://shop.ezgo.com/products/Walka...y-Harness.html being used to control the brake lights. As I've been able to figure out from this forum, the red wire is 48v ignition when the key is on and the purple wire is PWM ground signal to the brake lights.

My problem is that I don't know what wires to hook up to the relay outside of purple-purple and red-red. I've read through the "pizza box" post, but I'm only good for amateur electrical work and I'm not able to see the correct connections I should be making.

I've attached pictures to hopefully help.

Here's some of the forum research posts I've read through:

That's pretty much where I'm stuck. I have the 86 (purple wire) and 85 (red wire)...easy hook up. I don't have turn signals so where the 87 ("gray" wire) and 30 (brown wire) connect to is the mystery. Also I can't see how the individual brake light jumper receptacle is incorporated into the wiring schematic.

As far as I can tell the way the relay works, the 30 connection is the positive input from the battery....not sure if that needs to be 12v like the lights or 48v; and the 87 connection is another input source connection.......and I'm stuck.

Anyone else start out with a red & purple wire and somehow made it work?

Most light kits without turn signals do not have brake lights.

Messing with purple and red wires is playing with fire.

Do not guess and risk blowing your controller up.

I'm the third owner....first was a golf course. It was redone in 2010 for the previous owner and that's when I think the lights were put on. As for light kit manufacturer, I believe it is EZGO....just the pre-Feb 2009 kit. The post-Feb 2009 kit is found here https://shop.ezgo.com/products/Light...roduct_id=5854 and you can see the relay that controls the brake lights included in the kit (left of the brake light in the picture).

I'm including pictures of what my lights look like to give you a better idea.

Not sure what the wiring differences are between 2008 vs 2009, but if anyone has the install instructions for the post 2009 kit, I'd appreciate a post.

Thanks!

Well that's disappointing. I would have thought it wouldn't have been to do since there are three wires going to my rear lights (ground, running lights, brake?). I wouldn't think Feb 2009+ RXV would be that different or that I can't make this work.

Any other insights?

So the cart currently only has running lights in rear, no brake or turn signals? With the wiring you describe, it should be able to be done. We just need to figure out if/where the current lights has a spot to hookup brake light switch. I can't tell you wire colors, or where they are routed because it's not an ezgo kit and there are so many aftermarket wire harnesses.

Yes, just rear running lights....very bright. I've pulled the floor board to check for a brake switch like this (don't have it): (LGT-161: fast forward to 9:25 ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBfRf0iB02Y but I don't have that light kit with the connector either (shown at 13:30).

I figured that the same brake pedal sensor that's in the 2009+ models exists in the 2008 and adding the relay and tracing power for the other two wires would have me working in the least complex way.

also, no brake or turn signals....yellow lights on the headlights work as running lights.
