Ezgo Smoke at harness

I have a fleet ezgo cart. 36v electric serial #1134786. I rode the car a short distance and it stopped.. I looked for broken wires and nothing. The batteries show 37V. I changed the solenoid today and as soon as I turn the key on I began to get smoke from a little wiring harness of green, black, white, black wires. I do notice the green wire I think goes back to the foot pedal.. By the way, the cart has no micro switch at the pedal.. I guess I'm getting back voltage from some where. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

What yr is the cart (last 2 digits of the manufacture code) and which drive system are you asking about?

I was just reading other post, is it possible I put my diode backwards and that would cause it?

Absolutely! Stripe to the positive side. Probably fried the pedal micro switch.

The cart would not run (as stated) with the diode backwards

He said he changed the solenoid then this happened, but upon closer reading his original post, he said there was no micro switch, which could be trouble for the controller.

Yes they have already modified the cart. And it would be easy to leave the solenoid and controller 'on' for weeks unknowingly.

I would remove the diode, check to see if the solenoid would operate with the pedal, if not there could be damage to the wiring harness, key switch, or forward micro switch, if it does operate, replace the diode correctly with the stripe towards the positive.
