Question 16 mph 48V 2013 EZGO TXT?

Hello everyone,

My 2013 EZGO TXT 48v is doing between 15 and 16 mph only at full throttle. It's got a year old batteries and they charge ok. I have not checked the water on them recently.

I'm using digiHUD to measure the speed. The tires were low at 14psi and I inflated them to 20 psi which is only giving me the 16mph from 15 at 14psi

It's got 12s with 23" tires. Is that the normal average speed for that cart with those tires? Am i supposed to go faster than that? If so can I get some advise on how to do that (other than changing the controller to an XCT and another motor)

Thanks

First of all did it ever go faster or was it always that slow. Just for fun check the water in the batteries.

Yea I'll do that, my batteries have this kind of covers for the holes. Are those easy to remove? See first pic

All the batteries water covers are attached to this thing. See second picture. Can someone tell me what that is for?

It says pre-fill single single point watering system. I guess the name explains it. 😀

Need to research how to use it

You should just have to turn those yellow caps (four per battery) 1/4 turn CCW. And remove the entire set of four caps. Make sure the water is covering the plates. Also see that C3 stamped into the lead posts. That means March 2013.

Yea, I need the pump, I'll get it tomorrow and fill it with the pump for the Flow Rite.

You mean the batteries are 2013? Time to replace them?

You think that's why is only going 16? What speed is the average for 48v on 12s with 23 tires?

If they didn't run dry they should be OK. Batteries should last a minimum of 5 years if well cared for. You need to remove the caps and visually check the water levels. Those floats have been known to stick.

OK I'll do that. But I should be doing more than 16 right?

I bought a 2012 48v txt with 23" tires this summer. Batteries were 1 year old. I was getting 18 mph on tires with 10 psi. My dealer ordered a passkey and programmed my stock Curtis controller, giving me about 21 mph. The cost is minimal for a passkey. It was like $50. I didn't realize my tire presure was so important until after upgrading my controller. If I would have had them at 20 psi, I bet I would have hit 23 no problem.

We are assuming that used batteries were "well cared for" when we say 5+ years should be expected from batteries that likely came off a golf course? That's a stretch. In all reality, you need to hit the controller with the Pass key to bring it up to speed & make it forget its past life as a golf course mobile. Please read up on the pass key speed upgrade, so you know what to expect & what to expect to need a dealer to finish for you.
