Default EMP motor arrived last night!

Time to swap motors. I have been in contact with Chuck at EMP for about a month and decided to go with an upgraded ZQS48-3.8-Tb. I will post results after I install and test (hopefully today).

The cart is a 2012 txt, lifted with 23" tires, Alltrax Xct 500, and 2 ga wires. The motor was one of EMPs options. I asked for 28 to 30 mph, and better mid range acceleration. Other options were 1. Rebuild stock AMD DL9 motor, 2. A rebuilt Admiral B2. This motor is supposed to be a beefier motor and have better thermal capabilities, therefor able to carry more passengers without overheating. He put heavy duty brushes and high speed banding in as well. The banding was an upgrade. I don't plan on exceeding 6200 rpm but $100 for the peace of mind that my motor would stay intact if I go down a hill was worth the cost.

Going downhill with the XCT's Speed Limit slider set to 6200RPM, the regen braking will kick in when the motor reaches that RPM limit and the cart's max speed downhill will be about 34.1 MPH on 23" tall tires and 12.44:1 gears in the differential.

Did EMP supply a field map for that motor?

Yes. He provided a field map. I seriously considered the B2, but he said this one had much better thermal capabilities.

34 mph Faster than I want to be going in a golf cart with 4 people downhill. Have you got the Ausco rear disc brake kit installed yet?

Ausco will be next upgrade. Trust me, I will not be going down hill at 34 mph with 4 people. The banding was added for my peace of mind. Chuck said it wasnt necessary at my requested speed. My average speed with one ot two on the cart will be about 26. I just wanted the capabilitiy of 30 mph.

Motor swap done! Did one test run. Hit 30 mph as desired and acceleration is better. I still need to play with the speed and torque curves. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase. Here are some pics. The new motor is about a half inch longer. The best way to get the motor out was from the wheel area.

Very nice results and hope you enjoy it.

Side question; Do you know what motor casings EMP starts with when they build one or do manufacture everything in house?
