Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
I have a 2012 TXT with factory lights, horn, and battery meter. The reducer has a green, 2 black and a red wire out of it. The 2 black join together to a bigger wife and go to the batter negative. The red goes to positive and the green to the fuse block. The green always has 12v. Why? I am looking for some switched 12v for a radio install.
Thanks! |

The reason the green has 12v on it all the time is because you hooked the reducer directly to the battery pack.

Re: Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
I'm the second owner and I bought it like this. With factory lights doesn't the dealer or factory install the reducer? I know the person I bought it from didn't do it and when I put my serial number into ezgo website it says TXT w/ lights. So where is the red wire supposed to be hooked up then?

Re: Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
OK, if it is a factory one, what's the label on it say? Surepower? That's the one ezgo uses. If it's the OEM converter, it has a pinout on the tag on the opposite side from the plug end.

Re: Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
Yes, it is a surepower OEM - part number 605967.
What do you mean by "it has a pinout on the tag on the opposite side from the plug end."? Do you mean the tag will tell me what each Li out is? I traced the wires from the plug itself. I am wondering if it is installed incorrectly but I expect the factory installed it so it is correct ....but I have constant 12v from the green pinout. I have been trying to find the installation manual online since it is a stock ezgo part. They list it to buy but no installation manual. |

Try looking for this. If you look closely at the plug , it has corresponding numbers embossed in the plug.

Re: Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
My cart is a "refurbished " cart so I had to figure out the reducer wiring as well. I have 5 wires. Ground, battery pack, ignition, constant hot, and switched (ignition) hot. My switched hot goes to the fuse block. When I installed my radio, I ran my constant hot from radio to the constant on the reducer. I wired the switched hot to the fuse block and tapped the radio negative into the reducer black.
You could run your own wiring from the constant hot through the key switch and then to the switched radio lead...and of course also run the constant radio hot to the constant on your reducer. |

Thanks, I'm not far from you in Nassau Bay! Guess I will unbolt the reducer and check it out. Seems crazy it was installed this way from the factory tho.

Re: Why does my DC-DC reducer have constant 12v
This is weird. I had EZGO send me the installation instructions and it says to connect it up as I have it which results in always having 12v to the fuse block. I will pull off the converter and see if the label/plug shows how I can hook it up to be switched to the fuse block instead.
