36-48 Conversion/Upgrade
Newbie here.....
Ive got a 2001 txt 36 volt cart that im wanting to convert to 48 volts, Is the controller, solenoid, and motor the only items needing to replace? Or does the forward-reverse switch need to be replaced to? My plans are using a Plum Quick Bandit Motor with a 4 inch lift with all terrain tires. Ill be using the cart mostly for running around my property, hauling stuff around.... Anybody have any suggestion on tire size? Also anybody know where I might be able to get a good deal on a Curtis Controller maybe a rebuilt one or something? Thank You |

+1 on all of that. I can only speak about Scotty B at carts unlimited, since he's the only vendor/sight sponsor I purchased from, but the prices and service were unbeatable. I rebuilt mine from the frame up and purchased all of the upgraded gear to make the cart go from him. You may want to add to your post what type of drive system you have and if everything is currently stock. You can even post pics, if you're not sure. As an example, my cart had an upgraded factory motor and controller, which I only figured out with the help from people here. I'll be switching from 36-48 soon, and upgraded my controller, solenoid, cables, and went to a super duty contactor for forward/ reverse during my rebuild. My motor will do fine at 48v, and seems to still run well, so left it. Post here, or better yet, email Scotty with as much info about what you're currently running in the cart and what you want it to be able to do. How many people ride on it, wat type of terrain, etc. He'll dial you out with exactly what you need for the type of performance you're looking for. In the meantime, you can learn a ton just poking around on his website. There's a lot of really helpful information on there for those of us that are just getting into this. Good luck, and post plenty of pics and updates. Oh, and the guys in the know will tell you to stay away from the rebuilt controllers. The Altrax seems to be the consensus favorite. |

Don't forget that you need a 48V charger.

Re: 36-48 Conversion/Upgrade
Welcome to BGW Sunnny, Do yourself a favor and look at the new Alltrax line of speed controls. The SRT and XCT controls are the first controls with reverse polarity protection, free programmable software, and a 2 yr warranty (that really works when it needs to)

Re: 36-48 Conversion/Upgrade
I was looking at lift kits when I realized my cart is a 2001 1/2 model, so I can't use a econo lift. So I was wondering what would be the largest tires I can use without a lift kit unless someone knows a cheap way of lifting this cart a few inches.

Sunny, the largest tires you can run on a stock cart would be ones with the diameter of 20.5"
