Hello, I'm a new guy to gof carts. I inherited an ez-go electric, but the key was missing. I jumped the key switch and bingo, it was up and running. Now here's where I want to kick myself in the a*s. The previous owner (my father)installed a volt meter right next to the key switch. You guessed it, through my carlessness the key switch wires contacted one of the volt meter wires , now its a no-go golf cart. I have lights and a horn, but no forward or reverse or back up alarm. Where do I start. I know it has a speed controller (1206?) and under the floor mat a throttle controller. Any help would be appreciated

We need to know the year and drive system on this cart before we can advise properly. There should be a metal tag in the passenger storage bin. Post the numbers on the tag. Also, is there a toggle switch on the controller cover under the passenger seat?

It has no toggle switch, I know its a non pds controller, I'm at work now. I'll post the requested info tonite if the tag is there.

I assume it is a plastic bodied TXT, lack of a toggle switch would make it a Series system. No reverse alarm usually leads us to the Reed switch interlock in the cart charger receptacle. If this small switch fails, the cart will not run. The switch can be bypassed with a jumper to determine if it is bad.

where is this switch located and would my clumzie move of having the key switch wires touch the volt 36v meter wire blow it out

The switch is located within the cart charge receptacle. Yes, shorting the ignition circuit can blow out this switch.

In this photo disconnect the red wire from the A(+pos) connection of the cart charger receptacle. Cut the thin white Reed switch wire as close to the Reed switch itself as you can. Discard Reed switch. Install an eyelet on the newly cut white wire and attach it to the A(+pos) connection of the cart charger receptacle (where the thin red wire used to be). Your Reed switch is now bypassed.

Be sure to unplug the charger from the cart before driving away!

Oh and if your charger receptacle looks this dirty, CLEAN IT!

So the reed switch is that little black "bulb"?? and what does it do

The Reed switch is a safety interlock. When the charger plug is engaged to the cart a small magnet in the charger plug acts on the Reed switch, completing the ignition circuit, and allows the solenoid to engage sending current to the controller. This prevents you driving away with the charger still plugged in, saving you from dragging it down the fairway. If you bypass the Reed with a jumper and don't replace it, be sure to loop your charger cable through the steering wheel to remind you.
