Default 96 Ezgo TXT speed trouble

I am looking for help as to why my cart does not go any faster. Top speed on flat ground is 8-9mph. 1996 Ezgo TXT. 36v.

I just put brand new US-145 batteries in it.
A few years ago I put an Alltrax AXE 4855 500a controller in it.
About two years ago I put a new motor in it. D&D Motor Systems 8hp. See attached picture for details on it.

Surely my cart can do better than 8-9mph? Very frustrating. Local cart guy is a miserable experience to deal with.

Any troubleshooting tips?

Check voltages while at full speed. 1- Check at battery pack, 2- check at controller B+ & B-, 3- and check at controller B+ & M-. At full speed they should all be the same, and as close to 36v as possible. If there is a big difference between the second & third test, likely a ITS throttle problem prohibiting 100% PWM (full power) in the controller.

@cgtech - thanks for the response. Forgive my ignorance but I have two questions.

Can I put the cart on a jack and press accelerator to check the voltages? I will be testing solo and don't like the idea of riding and checking at the same time. =) I am assuming you check the voltages with a standard voltmeter?

If it is a throttle problem is this an adjustment that needs to be made in the controller or would I need a new controller?

I am extremely limited in my knowledge on carts and am very thankful for the help. (Have spent a few hours today on here and YouTube trying to get an idea of what to do.)

Lol you can test the batteries while driving it, and it will be under load too because of your body. You would want a meter with longer probes and alligator clips so your back is not turned so much. As for testing the controller definitely do not drive the car while your doing that lol it's just not a good idea just jack it up for that sorry for jacking your post CG. As for controller you can't adjust it. If it's bad it's bad

@yamaha - thanks for the help! Hope it's not a controller. Dang things are expensive.

I feel an accurate result will be easier obtained under real load. You will need alligator clips for your test leads, you should be willing to get them if you fancy yourself as a DIY golf cart fixer. I clip to the controller leads and test drive. I don't see any reason it's unsafe to test on the controller while driving (as long as clips are used, not holding the leads in place). All the meters use the same plugs for leads, so any set with clips you find should be good. Radio shack carries test wires with alligator clips on both ends that could clip to your current test leads.

No problem, but like cgtech said, your problem is likely in the ITS sensor under the floor. When controllers go bad they typically go all or nothing. So the fact that your car runs, although slow, it's probably not the controller

Clips ordered thanks to Amazon. Ha, I'm no fancy DIY golf cart fixer but am trying to learn.

The D&D 170-004-0001 is a very high torque motor (40% more than stock) whose max RPM is about 15% less than the stock motor.

With stock height tires (18" tall), the max speed will be about 12 MPH on level ground.
What tires are you running?

------------------

If the voltage on the third test suggested by cgtech is lower than the second test voltage, measure the voltage between the black and white wires on top of the AXE controller.

Should be 10V when the pedal is pushed just far enough to make solenoid click and decrease to 6V when pedal is on floor.

---------------

Also, what is your battery pack voltage about 12 hours after the charger shuts off?
Ought to be 38.5V, maybe a bit higher since they are new. Chart attached.

US Battery batteries operate at a slightly higher voltage than Trojan batteries and not all chargers will fully charge them.
What charger are you using?

Ok so after testing here are my results.

Battery pack tested 35.7v while running.
B+ & B- tested at 35.5 while running.
B+ & M- tested at 0.1 while running
Controller black to white wire was 8.8 at click and 5.5 while running.

Will check the 12 hour test in the morning.

I have a Power Wise charger.
Solenoid is 200a
Tires are 23x10x10

With these results do y'all feel like it is the ITS sensor?
