Looking at changing controllers
I am new to the forum. I currently have a 2004 ezgo PDS with a lift and 20" tires with a freedom chip everything else is stock. I am looking at upgrading to 48v when I change the batteries, current batteries are 1.5 years old. I have been thinking about upgrading the controller and other associated items prior to changing the batteries if there is a controller that can be programmed for 36v or 48v. Does such a controller exist? If you need more info just let me know and I will post it here...

Re: Looking at changing controllers
And yes, controllers capable of 36v now & 48v later are readily available. Available at a smokin' price at the link above.

And 42v, if you decide on that.

Quote:
Get the Alltrax XCT400PDS (or larger) controller and a MZJ400 Super-Duty solenoid. That combination will work at 36V for now and will upgrade to 42V or 48V later. The XCT controller works from 36V to 48V, but most solenoids are voltage specific and the Super-Duty solenoid that Scotty sells is the only one I know of that will work at 36V, 42V and 48V. I've ran mine at 36V and 42V so far. My first upgrade was replacing the OEM high current cables, which were only a bit over 3 years old at the time and got a noticeable improvement in low end torque even though everything else was stock. (No change in top speed because the stock PDS controller limits motor to 4400 RPM max. - The XCT controller is user programmable up to 8000RPM, but max RPM for most motors from about 6000 RPM up to about 6500 RPM.) Unless they have already been replaced, your cables are 13 years old and ought to be replace, all 10 of them with 4Ga or thicker. Unless damaged, the OEM cables going to F1 and F2 are okay, they only carry about 30A max. When you upgrade the battery pack voltage, get a DPI Accusense Charger, it is the best bang for the buck in addition to being one of the best available and has user selectable charging profiles for US Battery, Trojan, Exide and Crown and their clones, which pretty much covers most batteries typically used in golf carts. |

Re: Looking at changing controllers
JohnnieB,. I did not mention it in my original post, but I changed my cables out about 3 years ago to 4 gauge wire all the way to the controller. With my last battery change I went with AGM batteries and a lester summit series on board charger.
